At PSP Investments, you’ll join a team of motivated and engaged professionals, dedicated to propelling our organization further than ever before.
The Structural Forces and Geopolitical Insights team within the CIO translates geopolitical and thematic trends into signals relevant for strategic asset allocation. The team also operates the Country Evaluation Framework (CEF), which carries the team’s analysis to the point of investment decision through country-level risk assessments tailored to each asset class.
The Advisor, Geopolitical Analytics plays a key role in advancing the Ten-Year Thematic Outlook, contributing significantly to its development and shaping its analytical direction in a collaborative work environment with the Senior Analyst, Geopolitical Analytics. The Advisor supports the evolution of the methodology that connects geopolitical analysis to macroeconomics and strategic asset allocation, working closely with the Macroeconomics team. The role also contributes to the Structural Forces and Geopolitical Insights team’s internal and external collaboration initiatives. The role requires strong analytical judgment, solid geopolitical and macroeconomic expertise, and the ability to bridge structural analysis and country-level views.
As the Advisor, Geopolitical Analytics, you will:
Play a key role in advancing and maintaining the Ten-Year Thematic Outlook, including scenario building and probability-weighted scenario modelling across the structural themes that could impact our institutional positioning and geographically diversified portfolio
Serve as a key analytical reference, helping guide the quantitative and analytical approach and providing direction and feedback on specific components of the analysis in collaboration with the Senior Analyst, Geopolitics
Translate thematic conclusions into quantitative scenario parameters in collaboration with the Macroeconomics team to create the calibrated views that macroeconomic and risk models can leverage
Engage in the integration and regular upgrading of analytical approaches, including the use of data, modelling tools, and the integration of AI into thematic and scenario-building functions
Produce and maintain probability-weighted SAA-relevant materials, including inputs to Long-Term Capital Market Assumptions
Develop analysis on priority themes, including trade fragmentation projections, tariff-productivity interaction modelling, climate costs for investors, and AI diffusion views, in line with senior management priorities
Provide analytical depth that strengthens the Advisory Function and Country Evaluation Framework with PSP’s asset classes, bridging the altitude gap between structural ten-year analysis and country-level risk assessments for investment groups
Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including investment teams and the CIO Office, to provide analytical input and contribute to team deliverables
Contribute subject matter expertise on geopolitical risk, providing analytical perspectives to investment teams, the CIO Office and, as needed, governance committees
Graduate degree (Master’s minimum) in international political economy, political science, finance, security studies, or similar with a quantitative methods component
Minimum of six (6) years of relevant experience combining (geo)political or macro-strategic analysis with quantitative application
Demonstrated ability to work across the qualitative-quantitative boundary: geopolitical depth combined with fluency in macroeconomic concepts
Strong ability to communicate complex geopolitical analysis effectively in a quantitative and investor-driven environment
Familiarity with institutional investor portfolio construction
Prior experience with pension funds, sovereign wealth fund strategy teams, macro research firms, central bank research departments, or think tanks with quantitative capacity is highly valued
Knowledge of scenario modelling tools (Oxford Economics GEM or comparable global macro models)
Statistical software proficiency is an asset (R, Python, or Stata)
Experience building automated analytical workflows or scenario modelling tools, including AI-augmented approaches (a strong differentiator)
Strategic thinking, sound analytical judgment, and attention to detail with strong execution discipline
Bilingualism: French and English (frequent interactions in English with PSP employees based in our offices in Hong Kong, London and New York, and interactions in French with employees in our local offices in Montreal and Ottawa)
