Job Description

Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario.

Our Integrated Delivery Division is seeking an Advisor, AODA, and Accessibility. The Advisor provides expertise, education, and operational support for the effective delivery of programs and activities that address Metrolinx’s accessibility policies, procedures, and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) compliance activities. This role also works with cross-functional teams by providing accessibility expertise to progress the Multi-Year Accessibility Plan (MYAP).

What will I be doing?

  • Participating in the implementation, monitoring, and reporting on the Multi-Year Accessibility Plan (MYAP), contributing to the successful delivery of AODA commitments and organizational accessibility objectives.
  • Managing the accessibility@metrolinx.com email account and providing support to customer-facing teams to assemble responses to accessibility requests.
  • Coordinating and managing the Metrolinx AODA Centralized Oversight and Management Committee, setting up meetings, determining agenda, maintaining minutes, and bringing internal stakeholders to participate in reviews.
  • Facilitating the Metrolinx Accessibility Advisory Committee. Includes coordinating with the committee members, creating agendas, meeting materials, and minutes. Coordinates follow up and engagement with appropriate Metrolinx team members.
  • Engaging directly with persons with disabilities to gather feedback, understand customers’ accessibility priorities, and translate feedback into actionable recommendations, projects, policies, and service improvements.
  • Working with teams to review content, draft language for communications, and provide expertise on external facing communications.
  • Preparing reports and presentations outlining the problem description, development and evaluation of alternatives, recommendations, and implementation actions.
  • Coordinating projects and develops and monitors implementation schedules within schedule and budget limitations.

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?

  • University Degree in public policy and administration, social science environmental design, urban planning, disability studies, or a related discipline (ex. Discipline related to accessibility) - OR - an advanced/specialist technical certification, requiring an equivalent number of years of post-secondary education.
  • Expertise and experience interpreting AODA requirements and providing advice on accessibility related matters, including the application of Metrolinx policy and processes as they relate to accessibility.
  • Demonstrated experience in accessibility policy or AODA reporting, or a related field with demonstrated knowledge of and demonstrated expertise in understanding and working with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and all Integrated Accessibility Standards.
  • Experience working with the public to provide meaningful engagement with the community of people with disabilities.
  • Project management principles and practices to coordinate projects and develop and monitor implementation schedules within schedule and budget limitations
  • Interpersonal and oral/written/presentation communication skills to develop and deliver compelling briefing, communication and presentation materials for a wide range of audiences including through articles, presentations, and social media
  • Planning, research and project management skills to conduct research/analyses/studies and make technical recommendations
  • Software applications (MS Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and awareness of screen reader software.
