Advanced Water Technician

Location: Allentown, PA

Position Overview

The Specialist in Water Damage – Advanced is an expert in the drying and repair of residential buildings, large commercial, industrial, and institutional buildings and their contents. They serve as local, regional, and national resources for Our Client.

Their competencies include electronics and machinery management, books and documents, and specialized drying. They assess and dimension large losses and specify appropriate heat and desiccant drying systems. They have practical knowledge of the electrical demands of drying equipment and the determination of temporary power needs.

They are proficient in reading plans and floor plans and are familiar with integrating heating, cooling, and ventilation (HVAC) systems to enhance drying systems. In CAT situations, Advanced Specialists can lead multiple teams and take on significant production responsibility.

This position is Level 4, the highest level in the Water Damage career progression.

Responsibilities

  • Direct teams in the use of appropriate PPE for the job.
  • Review daily project requirements, document progress, and notify managers of progress and challenges encountered.
  • Provide appropriate field documentation, photographic records, charts, and sketches for various TPA projects.
  • Use acquired skills to draw sketches, read plans and floor plans, develop moisture content records, complete psychrometric records, and determine drying objectives.
  • Calculate the moisture load of a building and the cubic meters of affected areas, and request additional support for projects involving large water losses.
  • Determine the electrical consumption of drying equipment, the connection and operation of 220/110 converters, and the requirements for temporary power sources.
  • Perform daily inspections of vehicle safety and maintenance and keep vehicles clean and in proper working condition.
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail.
  • Comply with Our Client’s standards to safeguard customers’ property.
  • Demonstrate strong customer service knowledge and skills.
  • Work effectively under time constraints to meet specific deadlines.
  • Travel periodically and work nights and weekends as required.
  • Report hours worked and equipment and consumables used in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Attend operations sponsored by Our Client and required safety training courses.

Requirements

  • Supervise and self-perform Water Damage Basic and Intermediate tasks.
  • Perform all tasks related to managing large loss sites or specialized remediation requirements.
  • Create moisture maps using provided tools and knowledge.
  • Supervise multiple crews simultaneously across multiple projects.
  • Select appropriate disposal options and obtain releases of liability for disposed items.

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of the IICRC S500 Water Damage Standard.
  • Working knowledge of the IICRC S520 Mold Remediation Standard.
  • Hold a current IICRC ASD designation.
  • Demonstrate mastery of Our Client’s Water Damage Book.
  • Demonstrate proper use of appropriate moisture meters and infrared cameras, with an understanding of affected versus unaffected building materials and contents.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of air mover calculations, LGR dehumidification charts, electrical power specifications, and electrical circuits.
  • Demonstrate mastery in the use of HydroSensor, Thermal Hygrometer, NavPro Moisture Meter, or equivalent equipment, including accurate data recording.
  • Demonstrated experience and working understanding of building environments, thermodynamics, psychrometry, “burping” a building, and containment of HVAC supply and return air in CAT 3/Mold situations.
  • Eligible to operate a motor vehicle in accordance with Our Client’s vehicle policy.
  • Possess a sense of urgency, professional demeanor, positive attitude, and strong work ethic.
  • English language literacy and fluency.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent lifting in excess of 50 lbs.
  • Occasional assisted lifting of 41–50 lbs. (up to 50% of the time).
  • Access and mobility in tight spaces.
  • Sustained periods of standing, sitting, walking, bending, and kneeling.
  • Ability to use mobile devices for data and time collection.
