About the team

Pearson’s School Qualifications business supports schools, teachers, learners and their families from ages 5–19. Our ambition is to be the partner of choice for every school and teacher, helping every learner achieve their full potential.

The Next Generation Assessment team sits within Pearson’s UK Schools Product Development function and plays a pivotal role in accelerating digital transformation and assessmentled innovation. We work with education technology, regulation and pedagogy to design assessment experiences that are credible, trusted and futurefacing

About the role

We’re looking for an experienced and independent (Advanced Specialist) Product Manager to own and evolve Pearson’s onscreen assessment products with UK and international reach.

This role combines strategic product leadership with handson delivery ownership. You will shape product vision and strategy, lead evidenceled discovery, and work with subject, assessment, technology and quality teams to deliver digital assessments that can be confidently used in highstakes, regulated contexts.

You’ll balance learner and teacher needs, technical feasibility, commercial outcomes and regulatory expectations, while helping Pearson lead the market in digital assessment.

What you’ll be responsible for

Product strategy & leadership

  • Own and evolve the product vision, strategy and roadmap for onscreen assessment experiences in collaboration with the Head of Product, Digital & Assessments.

  • Contribute to Pearson’s wider digital assessment strategy across UK Secondary and international qualifications.

  • Identify emerging trends, technologies and regulatory developments, shaping longterm direction and investment priorities.

Customer insight & discovery

  • Lead customerled discovery, using research, data and evidence to understand learner, teacher and centre needs.

  • Translate insight into clear product requirements, priorities and tradeoffs

  • Act as a visible advocate for customer and learner experience across delivery teams.

Proposition development & delivery

  • Define and deliver marketwinning digital assessment propositions that meet expectations for validity, reliability, accessibility and usability.

  • Work closely with subject and assessment teams to develop subjectlevelonscreen assessment strategies.

  • Collaborate with engineering, design, QA, programme and content teams to deliver highquality products on time and to budget.

  • Explore partnership opportunities where they can accelerate capability or improve outcomes.

Regulation, standards & confidence

  • Ensure products align with regulatory requirements (e.g. Ofqual) and accepted assessment standards.

  • Contribute to statements, consultations and thought leadership on assessment standards, pedagogy and onscreen assessment.

  • Balance innovation with risk management in complex, evidencebased environments.

Commercial & stakeholder engagement

  • Support financial planning, forecasting and (where applicable) projectlevel P&L accountability.

  • Work with sales and marketing teams to ensure clear positioning, segmentation and messaging.

  • Communicate product intent, progress and outcomes clearly to a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.

What we’re looking for

You’ll bring a mix of strategic thinking and practical delivery experience, including:

  • Experience in Product Management or a productled role delivering digital products.

  • Strong interest in (or experience of) education, assessment or learning technology.

  • Confidence working with complex, regulated or evidencebased products.

  • Working knowledge of Ofqual’s role in regulating highstakes assessments is highly desirable.

  • Proven ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.

  • Integration & data flow awareness – Understands data and integrations between systems, APIs and can engage directly with engineering teams to advise and prioritise features and functionality.
    Quality, security & reliability mindset – Understands access control, reliability, performance and accessibility when linking systems, and is able to reflect these in requirements, acceptance criteria and release decisions.
    Strong customer focus, with the ability to turn insight into action.
  • Clear, structured thinking and excellent communication skills.
  • Experience working on assessment products, particularly in UK Secondary education, is advantageous but not essential.

Role location

This is a hybrid role, with a mix of home and officebased working. Possible office locations include London or Oxford.
