Job Description

Successful candidates for the Advanced Research Scientist position will investigate cellular and molecular mechanisms of Alzheimer’s disease pathogenesis and microglial mechanisms using transgenic and knock-out mice as well as cellular models of BIN1, a major late-onset Alzheimer’s disease risk gene. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic environment and train with experienced neuropathologists, molecular biologists, and cellular neuroscientists investigating various aspects of brain diseases and dysfunction. We are seeking candidates with previous experience in molecular neurobiology and models of neurodegenerative diseases. Preference will be given to candidates with interdisciplinary training and expertise in neuropathology and transcriptomics.

Responsibilities:


• Perform molecular and pathological characterization of mouse models of Alzheimer’s disease.
• Perform cell biological studies and functional assays using cultured microglial cells and other cell culture models.
• Contribute to multiple research projects in the lab and participate in training junior lab members, including graduate students and post-doctoral fellows.

Minimum Qualifications:

• This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in a natural, physical or medical science with 2 years of experience.
• Senate Bill 1310- The Florida Senate (https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2023/1310) is conditional upon meeting all employment eligibility requirements in the U.S.
• SB 1310: Substitution of Work Experience for Postsecondary Education Requirements
• A public employer may include a postsecondary degree as a baseline requirement only as an alternative to the number of years of direct experience required, not to exceed:
(a) Two years of direct experience for an associate degree;
(b) Four years of direct experience for a bachelor’s degree;
(c) Six years of direct experience for a master’s degree;
(d) Seven years of direct experience for a professional degree; or
(e) Nine years of direct experience for a doctoral degree
• Related work experience may not substitute for any required licensure, certification, or registration required for the position of employment as established by the public employer and indicated in the advertised description of the position of employment.
• Minimum Qualifications that require a high school diploma are exempt from SB 1310.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Strong background in neurodegenerative diseases, neuropathology, and advanced microscopy applications.
• Experience with models of neurodegeneration, transcriptomic analysis, and microglial characterization.
• A successful applicant must be dedicated, responsible, detail-oriented, well-organized, efficient, and communicate clearly with other lab members
• The position also requires excellent written and oral communication skills, exceptional organizational skills, practiced documentation skills, and the ability to handle information of sensitive and confidential nature in a professional manner.
• Ability to work independently and as a team, set priorities, and manage time effectively despite unanticipated interruptions. Willingness to adjust to changes in the workload and change focus as needed.

Special Skills/Trainings:
• Expertise in R and large-scale analysis of gene expression.
