JOB SUMMARYUT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider to join our Inpatient GI Surgical Oncology team. This full-time APP will support patients undergoing major oncologic surgery and provide continuity throughout the hospitalization in collaboration with surgeons, residents, APPs, nursing, and multidisciplinary care teams. Primary responsibilities include postoperative management, assessment of acute clinical changes, symptom management, nutrition, wound and drain care, monitoring for surgical complications, multidisciplinary coordination, and timely discharge planning. This position is focused on inpatient care and does not include routine operating room responsibilities. Veterans are encouraged to apply.Schedule: Full-time weekday schedule consisting of four 10-hour shifts, beginning at 7:00 a.m. The designated weekday off will be determined based on team and service needs. No weekend or holiday coverage is required.BENEFITS

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONExperienceA minimum of one (1) year of surgical, surgical oncology, acute care, or other relevant inpatient experience is preferred. Experience managing postoperative patients, recognizing acute clinical changes, and coordinating complex inpatient care is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate is clinically confident, communicates directly, advocates appropriately, and can identify and communicate support needs within a collaborative team environment. EducationGraduate of a master’s degree or higher Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician (ARC-PA) accredited Physician Assistant program. ORMaster’s degree or higher in nursing, documentation of completion of accredited Advanced Practice Education Program. Graduate education and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population.Licensure and CertificationCertification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) Certification required. Licensed by the Texas Physician Assistant Board. OR Licensure as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by Texas State Board of Nursing. Authorization for prescriptive authority by the Texas Board of Nursing.For Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) training or experience is preferred. Candidates with prior First Assist experience in the operating room, endocrine surgery experience, or a surgical background applicable to endocrine surgery are strongly preferred.Current applicable Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) American Heart Association or American Red Cross Life Support certification(s) based on UT Southwestern policy for Advanced Practice Providers. JOB DUTIESConducts and documents comprehensive initial and ongoing physical examinations based on age and diagnosis, including psychological status.Synthesizes data and utilizes evidence to develop, implement, and evaluate the patient plan of care, including ordering and interpreting laboratory, radiology, and other diagnostic studies/results.Demonstrates proficiency in technical/procedural skills, as appropriate and based on specialty and training.Provides relevant management, referrals, counseling, and education to patients, families, and caregivers related to current care and preventive health measures.Facilitates/participates in quality related initiatives and/or clinical research protocols through planned group processes, workshops, seminars, and staff meetings, to improve clinical and system practice performance.Collaborates in research projects and protocols; and routinely applies evidence based best practices to patient carePerforms other duties as assigned.
