About the Role

The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) is a skilled health provider who through a written collaborative practice agreement with a physician is credentialed through the Medical Staff Office. As a member of the Medical Staff the APN demonstrates standards of professional practice that includes ethical decision making, job activities related to quality assessment/improvement, self-evaluation, leadership and research. The APN is self-directed and purposeful in seeking necessary knowledge and skills to develop and maintain competency. The APN in the Hematology/Oncology Practice utilizes critical judgment in the performance of comprehensive health assessments, differential diagnosis and the prescribing of pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments in the direct management of patients diagnosed with a variety of hematologic or oncologic diseases. The APN practice will promote wellness through conducting research, providing education and works autonomously as well as in interdisciplinary teams as resources and consultants.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

  • The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) is a licensed healthcare provider operating under a written collaborative agreement with a physician and is credentialed through the Medical Staff Office.

  • As a member of the Medical Staff, the APN upholds professional standards that include:

    • Ethical decision-making
    • Participation in quality assessment and improvement initiatives
    • Ongoing self-evaluation
    • Leadership responsibilities
    • Involvement in research activities
  • The APN is self-directed and actively pursues the knowledge and skills necessary to maintain clinical competence.

  • Within the Hematology/Oncology practice, the APN:

    • Performs comprehensive health assessments
    • Develops differential diagnoses
    • Prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments
    • Manages care for patients with hematologic and oncologic conditions
  • The APN applies critical clinical judgment in the direct management of patients.

  • The role promotes patient wellness through:

    • Conducting and contributing to research
    • Providing patient and staff education

Qualifications

What You’ll Bring

  • Current Registered/Professional Nurse (RN) license in the State of New Jersey is required

  • Completion of a Master’s degree in Nursing from an accredited NP/APN program

  • Eligible for national certification as an NP/APN through an approved certifying body

  • Demonstrated skills in:

    • Interpersonal communication
    • Effective verbal and written communication
    • Creative problem-solving
  • Minimum of two (2) years of clinical nursing experience required

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required

  • Hematology/Oncology experience preferred

  • Preferred certifications:

    • Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) / ONCC Chemotherapy Biotherapy Certificate
    • Radiation Therapy Certificate
    • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN)
  • Participation in professional and/or specialty organizations preferred

Compensation

In compliance with New Jersey’s Pay Transparency Act, the salary range for this position is US/07S: $136,294- 180,084.03 per year . University Hospital considers multiple factors when determining compensation, including (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s relevant work experience, education and training, key skills, internal equity, market data, and organizational needs.The expected salary range for this position is in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Law; final compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
