Matrix Providers is hiring an Advanced Practice Adult Psychiatric Nurse to join our team of talented professionals who provide health care services to our Military Service Members and their families in at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Bethesda, MD.

  • Employment Status: Full-Time
  • Compensation: This is an hourly position, paid biweekly- $69.35-$71.40.
  • Schedule: Monday through Friday 7:00am-4:00pm or 7:30am – 4:30pm
  • Computer System: Manage patient records and input medical data using MHS Genesis.

The Advanced Practice Adult Psychiatric Nurse must have and meet the following:

Degree/Education: Graduate of a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) program OR a Psychiatric and Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist (PMHCNS) program accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).

Certification: Board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) certified or other recognized certifying body. Must maintain current certification in American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers; American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Course; American Red Cross CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) for the Professional Rescuer; or equivalent.

Experience: Worked continuously as a prescribing Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner or Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialist for two of the last three years. Minimum one year of experience in the past three years caring for psychiatric patients.

Licensure: Must pass and maintain a current, active, valid, unrestricted license as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner or Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialist city Prescriptive Authority in at least one U.S. State, District of Columbia, Commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction. All licenses shall be unencumbered and remain in effect during employment. Shall have documentation of current Drug Enforcement Agency number.

Other Qualifications:

  • Demonstrate the ability to educate patients and families on self-care and treatment adherence.
  • Provide age-appropriate psychiatric care across the lifespan, from infants through geriatric patients.
  • Possess expertise in commonly prescribed psychotropic medications and be trained in the assessment, evaluation, and treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
  • Meet all WRNMMC security requirements and maintain confidentiality while providing care to military, veteran, and other high-profile patient populations.

Advanced Practice Adult Psychiatric Nurse Core Job Duties:

  • The contracted APPN will provide the following services and in strict compliance with standing orders and protocols set forth by the MTF, and IAW JC guidelines to include, but will not necessarily be limited to the following:
  • Diagnose, evaluate, treat, and manage patients with acute and chronic psychiatric conditions.
  • Coordinate and manage patient care across the continuum to achieve optimal clinical outcomes.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, patients, families, case managers, and discharge planners to ensure continuity of care.
  • Perform psychiatric triage, assessments, patient disposition, counseling, medication management, and patient/family education.
  • Assist psychiatrists with medication refill management and facilitate therapeutic group sessions.
  • Support Graduate Medical Education (GME) by teaching and supervising interns, residents, and fellows.
