Job Description Summary

This position supports GE Vernova’s efforts in BWR fuel development initiatives, non-BWR core design activities, design application procedure development, and investigation of new methodologies for reactor design applications. The role is intended for an engineer with early professional experience who will contribute primarily to BWR core design and nuclear methods work while continuing to build technical depth in reactor physics, neutronics, and thermal-hydraulics applications.

This position is within the Methods, Analysis, and Design team within the Fuels and Digital Engineering Organization. This team is responsible for the application of existing and new methodologies to advance fuel design initiatives. This role will include the usage of nuclear engineering software but also the development of new methodologies and software as necessary.

Job Description

Essential:

  • Support technical work related to BWR fuel development initiatives and non-BWR core design efforts.
  • Contribute to the development, documentation, and improvement of design application procedures.
  • Assist in evaluating and applying new methodologies for reactor design applications.
  • Perform engineering analyses in support of core design and fuel design activities.
  • Work with experienced engineers to support the use, maintenance, and documentation of nuclear analysis codes and methods.
  • Prepare and present technical data, calculations, and results to internal stakeholders as needed.
  • Communicate clearly with team members and users of the methods through support, documentation, and training.
  • Ensure work is performed with high quality and in accordance with customer requirements, business quality standards, and applicable regulatory expectations.
  • Demonstrate teamwork, integrity, transparency, accountability, and a willingness to learn.
  • Communicate effectively and coordinate activities with other team members on engineering and technical issues.
  • Support project planning, execution, and status reporting as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in nuclear engineering.
  • Experience in nuclear reactor core design and one or more of the following areas:
  • neutronics analysis
  • thermal-hydraulics analysis
  • reactor design methods
  • Experience with at least one of the following types of analysis codes or tools:
  • Neutronics codes such as Serpent, MCNP, LANCR, PANAC, OpenMC or equivalents
  • Thermal-hydraulics and/or systems analysis codes such as ISCOR, the COBRA family, PARCS, TRACG, RELAP
  • In the above experience bullets, the applicant must have sufficient experience that they can perform reactor core design and analysis with minimal oversight.

Eligibility Requirements

The preferred work location for this role is at the GE Vernova center in Warsaw, Poland as an integral part of the global engineering structure of GE Vernova.

Desired Characteristics:

  • M.S. Degree in Nuclear Engineering
  • Experience with reactor physics methods, core simulation, and fuel performance analysis.
  • Experience with BWR core and fuel design
  • Programming experience with Python, Bash or Batch scripting, and one of Fortran, C, or C++.
  • Familiarity with engineering calculation tools, technical documentation, and analysis workflows.
  • Strong organization skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technical methods and tools quickly.
  • Curiosity, initiative, and a strong desire to expand technical capability.
  • Good communication skills and willingness to work across teams.
  • A strong commitment to quality, reliability, and continuous improvement.
