Job Description

General program information and/or position overview. Leidos is seeking an Advanced Capability Engineer to support the Indo-Pacific Logistics and Sustainment Services (ILS2) contract in Hawai’i. This position supports U.S. military logistics and sustainment operations throughout the Pacific by identifying, evaluating, and integrating emerging technologies and innovative solutions that enhance mission effectiveness across USPACOM and component commands. The successful candidate will join a collaborative team responsible for scouting, assessing, and piloting new capabilities that directly improve operational readiness across one of the Department of War's most strategically important theaters. As the Advanced Capability Engineer, you will serve as the program's senior technical authority on emerging technology and innovative solutions, evaluating commercial, government, academic, and defense-sector advancements for their applicability to logistics and sustainment operations. You will lead technology scouting, capability assessments, and proof-of-concept initiatives, translating promising innovations into practical, fieldable solutions for the program's military customers. Success in this role requires deep technical expertise, strong analytical judgment, and the ability to communicate complex technical findings to both engineering teams and senior government stakeholders.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Identify, evaluate, and assess emerging technologies, innovative solutions, and industry advancements that enhance mission effectiveness and operational performance.
  • Conduct market research, technology scouting, and capability assessments across commercial, government, academic, and defense sectors.
  • Analyze technology maturity, operational applicability, integration requirements, and potential return on investment for proposed solutions.
  • Develop recommendations, proof-of-concept initiatives, pilot programs, and technology transition strategies supporting continuous improvement objectives.
  • Collaborate with government stakeholders, technical teams, and industry partners to evaluate and implement new capabilities.
  • Maintain awareness of evolving technology trends and provide strategic recommendations that support long-term mission modernization efforts.
  • Support proposal development and program growth efforts by preparing technical assessments, capability roadmaps, and innovation strategies.
  • Develop technical briefings, assessment reports, and recommendations for program leadership and government customers.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree and 15+ years of prior relevant experience, or a Master's degree with 13+ years of prior relevant experience. Additional experience, education, and training may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Demonstrated experience evaluating and integrating emerging technologies within DoD, federal, or defense industry logistics and sustainment programs.
  • Working knowledge of DoD contracting and understanding of FAR, DFARS, military, and government regulations relevant to technology insertion.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and verbal/written communication skills, with the ability to adapt communication style to suit different audiences.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into actionable recommendations for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Active Top Secret (TS) security clearance with eligibility for Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) access required prior to start.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with USPACOM, subordinate Commands, and Pacific/Strategic Partner Nations.
  • Master's degree in a technical discipline (e.g., Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science).
  • Experience with DoD logistics systems, interfaces, sustainment, and deployment activities.
  • Familiarity with automation, robotics, AI/ML, and other logistics optimization techniques.
  • Experience supporting technology transition, pilot programs, or innovation initiatives within a DoD or federal contracting environment.
