Mercedes-Benz USA is looking for a Lead BI Platform Engineer responsible for the end-to-end ownership of enterprise visualization platforms, including Power BI (Microsoft Fabric) and Tableau.

This role combines platform engineering, operations leadership, and analytics enablement, with a focus on:

• Reliability, scalability, and cost-efficient platform operations

• Governance and standardization across BI ecosystems

• Leadership of day-to-day operations and offshore support execution

• Enablement of enterprise-wide self-service analytics and data consumption

You will work across multiple business domains including Remarketing, Aftersales, Customer Assistance Center, Sales, and Marketing to deliver consistent, high-quality analytics experiences.

Responsibilities

The tasks include, but are not limited to:

1. Platform Ownership & Governance

• Own and manage Power BI Fabric capacities and Tableau Server environments, ensuring availability, scalability, and cost efficiency

• Define and enforce enterprise governance standards across workspaces, datasets, semantic layers, and access models

• Lead capacity planning, workload management, and cost optimization for Fabric and Tableau platforms

• Drive standardization and rationalization of BI assets to reduce duplication and improve scalability

2. Operations & Support Leadership

• Lead day-to-day BI platform operations, ensuring uptime and service reliability

• Manage and oversee offshore support team, including ticket prioritization, SLA adherence, and workload distribution

• Act as primary escalation point for critical incidents and platform issues

• Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and drive issue resolution and prevention

• Establish and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for platform support and operations

3. Performance & Reliability Engineering

• Monitor platform usage, performance, and health metrics to proactively identify issues

• Optimize dataset performance, query execution, report load times, and gateway connectivity

• Implement monitoring and alerting frameworks to ensure proactive issue detection

• Partner with infrastructure teams on scalability, resilience, and capacity improvements

4. Architecture & Infrastructure Alignment

• Collaborate with infrastructure team to ensure Power BI architecture and roadmap align with evolving BI, AI, and business operational needs

• Ensure accessibility, organization, and integration of data sources to enable seamless data flow, analytics, and use-case development

5. Self-Service BI Enablement

• Define and promote best practices, frameworks, and templates for BI development

• Enable self-service analytics through curated datasets and semantic models

• Provide guidance and working sessions to improve report quality and usability

• Ensure alignment with data governance and security standards

6. Data & Analytics Engineering Support

• Support development of analytics-ready semantic layers and data models

• Develop proof-of-concepts (POCs) and MVP dashboards to accelerate business adoption

• Assist in deployment and validation of reports into the enterprise ecosystem

• Leverage SQL and Python for data transformation and automation where required

7. Stakeholder & Vendor Management

• Build and maintain relationships with business partners and platform teams

• Support Tableau Salesforce activities, including administrative licensing, upgrades, and decommission initiatives

• Collaborate with MBAG central teams, Microsoft, and external vendors to resolve issues and implement enhancements

8. Continuous Improvement & Innovation

• Drive adoption of modern BI capabilities within Microsoft Fabric

• Continuously improve platform performance, governance, and operational efficiency

• Collaborate with global eXtollo and ALICE counterparts to align with corporate strategies and share best practices

• Promote Power BI literacy and AI understanding across VP areas, supporting adoption of Power BI Apps and enterprise reporting solutions

• Foster a data-driven and AI-enabled culture where insights are actively used to inform business decision-making

Qualifikationen

Qualifications

Education:

University degree or above in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related field.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• 6+ years of experience in BI platform engineering, administration, or analytics engineering

• Strong hands-on experience with:

o Microsoft Power BI (Fabric capacities, semantic models, gateways)

o Tableau Server administration and architecture

• Experience in:

o Platform operations and SLA-driven support models

o Capacity planning, performance tuning, and optimization

o Managing offshore or distributed support teams

• Strong experience with SQL and Python

• Understanding of data lakehouse and cloud architectures (Azure preferred)

• Experience defining and managing semantic layers and reusable datasets
