Piedmont Virginia Community College ( PVCC) is a public, open access institution of higher education in the Virginia Community College System whose main campus is located in Charlottesville, Virginia. This is home to the Charlottesville Historic Downtown Mall, The Jefferson School African American Heritage Center, and the John Paul Jones Arena ( JPJ). Position Title: Adult Education Instructor

Department: Workforce Development, TJACE@PVCC

Employment type: part-time (hourly), non-benefitted, 29 hours or less per week, in person instruction


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize, and provide instruction in core skills in GED content areas: math, social studies, science, and language arts. Facilitate computer-based instruction in English for Speakers of other Languages ( ESL).
  • Integrate employability skills including computer skills into instruction.
  • Help students develop career pathway goals and plans.
  • Evaluate student learning and develop instructional strategies and individualized learning plans to meet learning goals.
  • Administer pre and post assessments.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records.
  • Participate in staff meetings and professional learning communities.
  • This position requires on site availability—classes are held in person with students.




Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.


KSA's/Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree and adult teaching experience required.
  • Outstanding personal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • The ability to keep accurate records
  • The ability to incorporate current technology into the classroom environment
  • The ability to work with a diversity of individuals and groups
  • Excellent problem solving skills to analyze issues and create action plans
  • The ability to adapt to changing work priorities

Additional Considerations
