Job Description

Under the supervision of the Director of Adult and Community Education, works to increase adult students' achievement for assigned area of the curriculum. Coordinates, evaluates, and revises curricular materials and assessments in the department and provides appropriate instructional assistance and orientation to new, returning and continuing teachers. Keeps current with the trends, standards, practices, and research findings in adult education. Identifies and infuses current and emerging technologies for the delivery of established curricula. Works to align adult education curricula with district, state, and federal standards. Assignment may vary according to needs of department/program.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Evaluates curriculum. Assists in coordinating the requests for and ordering of textbooks, instructional books, multi-media materials, software and other instructional technology.
  2. Coordinates curriculum development by keeping teachers and administration informed on new materials, new practices in adult education, new instructional and curriculum research leading to higher achievement of all students.
  3. Assists the Program Specialist in disseminating information and supporting teachers regarding accountability, formal and informal assessments, and building the practices of a professional learning community.
  4. Assists in planning and conducting department/program meetings and coordinating department/program professional development activities.
  5. Assists in the design of new courses of study through needs assessment and collaborative work with teachers and community partners.
  6. Conducts orientation for new teachers.
  7. Assists in maintaining up-to-date course syllabi for department/programs.
  8. Works with other program and district administrators as appropriate to align learning outcomes with district and state standards.
  9. Maintains and enhances the resource library for all programs.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.

Employment Standards

  • Education
    • Required: Appropriate valid California teacher credential; Bachelors' Degree; CBEST
    • Desired: MA in education, curriculum development, adult education, or related field.
  • Experience
    • At least three years of successful adult education teaching experience in designated curricular area. Demonstrated success as a classroom teacher. Employment in a current teaching assignment preferred.
  • Expectations
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret academic standards and assessment data
    • Ability to identify multiple pathways for students to achieve curricular objectives, including rigorous academic goals, experiential learning and constructivist strategies.
    • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
    • Ability to develop an environment of collaborative work with department members
