Adult Day Program Assistant (Recreation Therapist)

Health Services – Seniors Services Development

Status: 5 Regular Part Time Position

Hours of work: No guaranteed hours. Various shifts: Mon–Fri 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.; Sat 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Alternating weekends and holidays.

Hourly Rate: $33.05-34.96 (plus 14% in lieu of benefits)

Work mode: Onsite - Peel Manor Adult Day Services - 525 Main Street North, Brampton, ON

Who we are: The Seniors Services Division require staff to provide person-centered care to our clients, and caregivers following the Butterfly Model of Care. This will ensure high levels of emotional wellbeing and a better quality of life for those living in our homes and participating in our Adult Day Programs. We are looking for staff that bring passion and care to the work that they do.

What you will do in this role:Reporting to Supervisor, Adult Day and Community Services you will provide therapeutic and recreational services and support the independence of clients in attendance at the Adult Day Service

  • Assist with providing activities, which are varied to meet the needs of the participants from the community
  • Assist the participants to integrate into the group activities and programs which may include hobbies, social events, spiritual care programs and therapeutic regimes
  • Assess participants’ abilities and interests and recommend specific programs
  • Serve all meals and snacks to clients according to proper dietary requirements
  • Provide assistance for all activities of daily living
  • Maintain appropriate records in accordance with the policies and procedures and legislated standards of the Centre
  • Day Program Assistant responsibilities as per job description

What the role requires:

  • Post secondary degree/diploma in Activation/Recreation Therapy or Social Services/Gerontology from an accredited community college is required
  • Previous experience of at least one year in Adult Day Service or a long term care setting is preferred
  • Must have effective oral and written communication skills
  • Must be able to communicate appropriately with clients, staff, volunteers and visitors
  • Computer skills are required
  • Must have a valid CPR/First Aid certification
  • May be required to hold a Class “F” license
  • Must have Food Handlers Certification
  • Must be physically able to perform all delegated duties
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias

Pre‑Employment Requirements

To ensure the safety, well‑being, and trust of Clients, Caregivers, and staff within our Adult Day Programs, successful candidates are required to complete the following pre‑employment checks prior to hire

  • Vulnerable Sector Police Check (issued within the past six months)
  • Tuberculosis (TB) Skin Testing (current within the past six months)

These requirements are a condition of employment in Adult Day Programs and support our commitment to maintaining safe, compliant, and high‑quality care environments.
