Job Description

Are you passionate about supporting individuals through mental health challenges? Join our dedicated crisis response team at our Adult Crisis Stabilization Unit (ACSU) in Presque Isle, ME, and make a lasting impact in your community.


As a full-time Adult Crisis Counselor, you will provide immediate, compassionate support and intervention to adults experiencing mental health or substance use crises. You’ll work in a fast-paced environment where empathy, critical thinking, and teamwork are essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Support the referral, admission, continuing care, and discharge of adults to and from the ACSU.
  2. Provide crisis intervention and stabilization services while the client is at the ACSU.
  3. Maintain daily tracking of each client, including mental status, activities of daily living, treatment plan progress, safety concerns (suicidality, self-injury), medication administration, and 24/7 monitoring.
  4. Assist in the development and adherence to treatment plans, discharge planning, and crisis plans.
  5. Assist with meal preparation, cleaning, laundry, and other household responsibilities.
  6. Educate staff and the community (clients, family members, and providers) about Emergency Services, resources, and options available, and how to access them.
  7. Complete and maintain documentation per policy and procedure.
  8. Access and participate in team, agency, and clinical consultation meetings.
  9. Follow the protocols outlined in the ACSU and Emergency Services Employee Handbooks.
  10. Provide integrated services in a manner that supports a client’s overall health and well-being.
  11. Provide phone support, crisis intervention, stabilization, information, and referrals to callers.

Requirements

  • This position requires a high school diploma.
  • The MHRT-1 is provided upon hire; it must be completed within the first 30 days of employment. Under the MHRT-1 Provisional, the following needs to be completed within one year of hire: First Aid, CPR, Mental Health Support Specialist, and MANDT (Level I required).
  • Employees are required to maintain all certifications to remain in good standing and to keep their MHRT-I current.
