Examples of duties
This role focuses on teaching core academic subjects to adult learners and adapting instruction to meet individual educational needs. The position also involves assessing students, maintaining classroom records, and helping establish a safe and supportive learning environment. As an Adult Basic Education Teacher, Correction Education, you will perform the following duties:
- Student Assessment: Administer pre-tests and post-tests to determine placement and measure academic progress
- Lesson Planning: Create individualized lesson plans and select teaching methods that match student learning needs
- Classroom Instruction: Teach subjects such as math, reading, writing, science, and social studies in a structured classroom setting
- Record Maintenance: Keep accurate attendance, inventory, and student documentation according to required procedures
- Behavior Management: Establish classroom expectations, address disruptive behavior, and support a productive learning environment

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
- Work hours are 7:45 AM to 3:45 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $72,215.00 (before taxes).

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- A bachelor's degree in education which includes or is supplemented by successful completion of an institution-approved teaching practicum; or
- Four years of paraprofessional experience assisting educational staff in a classroom setting that includes or is supplemented by one year of experience providing classroom instruction or possession of an active Instructional 1 or 2 certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes or is supplemented by completion of an institution-approved teaching practicum, one year of experience providing classroom instruction, or possession of an active Instructional 1 or 2 certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
Other Requirements:
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
