Job Description

Necco has an opportunity for a career as an Adoption Specialist This role is responsible for guiding children, foster families, and adoptive families through the adoption and permanency process. The Adoption Specialist ensures safe, ethical, and timely placements by conducting assessments, coordinating services, and providing ongoing support from intake through post-adoption stabilization.

This role works directly with children and foster parents across home, school, office, and community settings to support permanency outcomes and overall well-being.

The candidate selected will be responsible for the following:

Case Management & Permanency Planning

  • Conduct home studies and assessments for prospective adoptive families
  • Participate in referral matching and placement planning to ensure best-fit outcomes for children
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment and adoption plans
  • Support children and foster families throughout placement, transition, and post-adoption adjustment
  • Coordinate services including behavioral health, medical care, education, and independent living supports
  • Maintain regular contact with children and families in accordance with state and licensure requirements
  • Facilitate service meetings with families, guardians, schools, and community partners
  • Ensure timely and appropriate discharge planning, including aftercare referrals

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete case records in the Electronic Health Record (EHR)
  • Complete required Medicaid and service documentation in accordance with state and company standards
  • Prepare reports, court documentation, and adoption-related materials
  • Ensure compliance with all state, federal, and accreditation requirements
  • Monitor documentation, safety plans, and medication logs to ensure regulatory adherence

Collaboration & Team Support

  • Partner with courts, attorneys, state agencies, and community providers to support adoption processes
  • Serve as a liaison between Necco, foster families, and external stakeholders
  • Provide guidance, training, and ongoing support to foster and adoptive families
  • Support team continuity by assisting with caseload transitions and mentoring new staff
  • Participate in team meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and organizational priorities

Training & Outreach

  • Educate prospective and current families on adoption processes, trauma-informed care, and parenting strategies
  • Facilitate orientation sessions, trainings, and support groups
  • Represent Necco in community outreach and recruitment efforts

Crisis & On-Call Support

  • Participate in on-call rotation to support children and foster families
  • Respond to and document critical incidents in accordance with policy
  • Report concerns related to safety, abuse, neglect, or non-compliance immediately
  • Ensure all incidents are documented and communicated within required timeframes

Position Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 21 years of age
  • Current LSW or LPC or Bachelor's degree in a human services-related field (OH, KY, GA)
  • Bachelor's degree with field experience of 2 years (WV)
  • Bachelor's degree or Master's degree from an accredited four-year college or university (Tennessee)
  • The degree must be supplemented by at least 7 hours in behavioral sciences, such as social work, psychology, and sociology
  • One year of casework experience can be substituted for the 7 hours
  • Minimum of 2 years-experience working with children with emotional or behavioral problems
  • Knowledge of adoption laws, child welfare systems, and family dynamics
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Limited Liability Auto Insurance Coverage of 100/300/100
  • Organizational, and Written/Oral Communications skills
  • Must have the skills necessary to navigate and execute several software’s (i.e. Microsoft offices, Databases, Electronic Health Records, Dashboards, etc.)
  • Successful completion of all required Criminal Background checks and drug screenings per state and company regulations
  • Ability to adhere to scheduled and unplanned deadlines
  • Willingness to travel and attend training
  • Successful completion of all required training pertaining to job
