Job Description

Now Hiring: Adolescent Wellness Coordinator
Jefferson Campus, Brooklyn, NY
Full-Time | Hybrid School-Based & Community Health Setting

Are you passionate about adolescent health, community engagement, and empowering youth? Do you believe in holistic wellness, culturally competent care, and the transformative power of education? Join us at BMS @ Jefferson—where we center young voices and create healthier futures, together.

Under the leadership of the BMS@ Jefferson Program Manager and in close collaboration with our dynamic School-Based Health Center (SBHC) team, the Adolescent Wellness Coordinator plays a vital role in advancing health equity and student success across Jefferson Campus.

What You'll Do

As our Adolescent Wellness Coordinator, you’ll serve as a bridge between students, healthcare providers, and community partners—helping adolescents thrive physically, emotionally, and socially. Your work will span three key areas:

SBHC Outreach & Enrollment

  • Lead creative outreach initiatives to boost enrollment and awareness of SBHC services.
  • Organize clinic tours for incoming 9th graders and promote health campaigns across campus.
  • Facilitate student intake and appointment scheduling with care and compassion.

Wellness Education & Health Promotion

  • Design and deliver engaging wellness workshops and events (think: health fairs, trivia nights, and peer-led discussions).
  • Partner with local organizations and NYC Teens Connection to bring evidence-based education programs like Seventeen Days and Plan A to students.
  • Work closely with school staff to integrate health education that resonates with students' lives.

Youth Leadership & Workforce Development

  • Support students applying to DYCD’s Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) and MSKCC’s Summer Internship Program
  • Coordinate professional development and health advocacy trainings for student leaders.
  • Help young people discover their voice—and their career path.

Requirements

What You Bring

We’re looking for a mission-driven, youth-centered professional who can build trust, inspire change, and juggle details with ease.

  • Education & Experience: Associate degree required; Bachelor’s preferred. At least 2 years working in community healthcare, youth services, or reproductive health.
  • Youth Empowerment: Proven experience supporting teen leadership or peer education programs.
  • Administrative Strength: 2+ years of clerical experience and confidence using Microsoft Office, databases, and Electronic Health Records (EHRs).
  • Communication Skills: Clear, inclusive communicator with a knack for building relationships across diverse communities.
  • Flexibility & Drive: Willingness to work some evenings and travel locally as needed. Independent, proactive, and adaptable in a fast-paced environment.

Why Join Us?

BMS FAMILY HEALTH AND WELLNESS CENTERS

About BMS FAMILY HEALTH AND WELLNESS CENTERS

The BMS Family Health and Wellness Centers (BMS) serve over 17,000 residents in East and Central Brooklyn, New York. We are dedicated to delivering top-notch services and comprehensive programs to address and prevent health conditions, while empowering our community through education, coordination, and advocacy.

Our mission is to provide and promote integrative and high-quality health care and social services, enabling every individual and family in our communities to achieve Total Health and Wellness. We aim to ignite a health and wellness revolution that brings lasting, positive change to our communities.

Our History: BMS’s roots trace back to the 1960s with the Brownsville Community Council (BCC), a group committed to organizing and empowering residents. This activism led to the creation of the Brownsville Community Development Corporation (BCDC) in 1974, and eventually, BMS was established in 1982 as a federally qualified health center. Our goal was, and still is, to provide services regardless of the ability to pay, immigration status, or health insurance coverage.

Our Impact: Today, BMS is dedicated to the cultural, economic, medical, and educational well-being of everyone in our community. We continue to advocate for increased healthcare access and inspire overall well-being throughout Brooklyn.

Our Founder: Joseph Francois, former CEO of BCDC and founding Executive Director of BMS, was a passionate advocate for Brownsville, Ocean Hill, and East New York. His leadership shaped BMS into a vital social change agent. In his honor, we have named one of our service sites the “BMS Life & Wellness Center: The Joseph K. Francois Pavilion.”
