Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and compassionate Registration/Admission Specialist to join our front-line patient access team. This role is responsible for greeting patients, verifying insurance, collecting co-pays, and accurately entering patient information to ensure a smooth and efficient registration process.

Fulltime position

Pay Range $17.97 - $22.91 per hour based on experience and qualifications (eligible for shift differentials).

Shift Differentials:

Weekday Nights - Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday - 7:00 pm - 7:00 am - $3.00 per hour

Weekend Days - Saturday, Sunday - 7:00 am - 7:00 pm - $3.50 per hour

Weekend Nights - Friday, Saturday, Sunday - 7:00 pm - 7:00 am - $5.00 per hour

Responsible for pre-admitting and admitting patients to the hospital, either during a face-to-face interview or over the phone, by gathering demographic and financial information. This position is responsible for verifying insurance benefits, providing estimates for services, checking Medicare medical necessity, and collecting money at time of service.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED required. One year of general office work experience is required. Previous healthcare revenue cycle experience preferred.

• Observes professional ethics in maintaining confidential information concerning the personal, financial, medical, or employment status of a patient.

• Admits non-scheduled patients by accurately interviewing them, obtaining all demographic and insurance information in a timely manner, and typing this information in the applicable revenue cycle software systems.

• Pre-admits non-scheduled patients for services, either in person or over the telephone.

• Ability to explain insurance benefits, deductibles, co-insurance, and discounts to patients at the time of service.

• Educates patients on financial policies of the hospital and directs them to appropriate resources, as necessary.

• Accurately completes and explains all required forms to patients including the Conditions of Service, Patient Rights and Responsibilities, Notice of Privacy Practices, and the Patient Portal.

• Understands payors with whom the hospital is contracted for managed care discounts.

• Completes the Medicare Secondary Payor Questionnaire on all Medicare patients at the time of admission.

• Obtains an Advance Beneficiary Notice for Medicare patients by checking medical necessity by verifying the procedure and diagnosis codes prior to the patient receiving services.

• Communicates admission service issues to the Revenue Cycle Specialist and/or Revenue Cycle Director in a timely and appropriate manner.

• Provides feedback to the Revenue Cycle Director to ensure the department processes are continually improving.
