Job Description

Performs pre registration and registration tasks for all inpatient admissions including but not limited to greeting patient upon arrival, obtaining all necessary consents and identification, and verifying demographics. Checks benefits for potential admissions. Assists with the office receptionist tasks such as answering the phones, filing charts and obtaining additional patient information.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Performance Appraisal Competencies): Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Assists RHCM and Intake Representatives with pre-registering referrals in Meditech Expanse. Assists with verification of benefits to ensure timely and financially appropriate inpatient admissions.

Coordinates completion of all tasks for inpatient admission:

  • Welcomes incoming inpatients to Gaylord Hospital. Notifies RN of arrival and provides welcome box and admission packet. Reviews visitor policy and fall prevention.
  • Obtains consent to treat, Medicare Important Message and copies of ID/insurance cards and uploads in Meditech Expanse in a timely manner.
  • Verifies all registration information in Meditech Expanse for accuracy.
  • Completes Medicare as Secondary Payer questions in Meditech Expanse.
  • Follows up on auto “no-pay” letters.
  • Adds PCP information to Meditech Expanse.
  • Will reach out to POA in instances where patient is unable to accurately communicate.
  • Responds to emails from Care Management to update programs, divisions, patient contact information, PCP information.

Actively participates in Admissions Department operations

  • Triages departmental phone calls, mail and information requests. Maintains department hard copy files.
  • Attends and participates in monthly Admissions staff meetings
  • Complies with all hospital Admissions policies and procedures
  • Acquires and maintains skills and knowledge regarding admissions/reimbursement through participation in relevant educational programs
  • Serves on hospital-wide committees and projects
  • Maintains professional, clear, and timely communication with internal and and external stakeholders.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma or GED. Two years of clerical experience working in a medical setting.
  • Knowledge of computers, medical terminology, general office and clerical duties, financial resources and issurance issues. At least two years of computer skills, medical terminology, phone skills and customer service. Training in financial counseling, authorization and payment issues related to health care.

Full time/Mon-Friday

9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
