About our group | Mō te roopu

The purpose of the Hazardous Substances & New Organisms Group is to manage consent application and reassessment processes. 

This role includes providing support and advice to applicants and delegated decision makers, and to conduct delegated decision making for the manufacture and import of hazardous substances, the import or release of new organisms; the reassessment of hazardous substances; the import and export of hazardous waste and ozone depleting substances; liaison with a range of stakeholders (including submitters, applicants and other government and international agencies) on statutory decision making.

About the role | Mō te tūnga

The Administrator will provide administrative support for application processing and decision making under a number of pieces of environmental legislation. This will also include providing administration support to project teams, logistical support for stakeholder meetings/conferences, management of enquiries, document management and support for the distribution of documents.

An excellent opportunity for someone to demonstrate their proficient organisation and communication skills who is looking to work as part of a cohesive team.

This role is based in Wellington. While we're happy to consider work-from-home arrangements however, this role is not designed for full-time remote working.

About you | Mōhou ake

We are looking for someone with a range of skills and capabilities – if you have some or all of the below, we would love to hear from you

  • Self-motivated, driven to deliver, able to manage multiple tasks and have strong attention to detail. Sound judgment, common sense and a pragmatic approach are key

  • Experience working with legislative requirements

  • Skilled user of Microsoft office products

  • Have the ability to work, and deliver, under pressure, set priorities, and achieve results in tight deadlines

  • Strong communication skills, and a focus on providing good customer service

  • A supportive, positive attitude

  • Experience with process development and/or process improvement

  • An interest in science, environmental or international regulation (desirable)

Salary Range

$60,216 - $83,268 per annum (midpoint $69,390).

This is the full salary range. Appointments will likely be made at or below the midpoint of this range, depending on skills and experience. An appointment at the midpoint assumes 100% competency in the role, with the full band covering a range of 80% - 120%.
