Description

If this sounds like you, then you might be the ideal candidate for the Administrative Specialist Senior position here in our Protection and Advocacy Division at the Kentucky Department of Public Advocacy (DPA).

In this important role in Kentucky’s largest criminal defense firm, you are often the first point of contact between attorneys, clients, and other members of the community, as well as an administrative assistant to the office’s supervisor. You will also be expected to draft and edit a variety of documents and reports, so excellent communication skills - both written and verbal - are a must. Time management skills are also valued as the ideal candidate will be handling multiple time-sensitive tasks for various attorneys, and the ideal candidate will be able to prioritize and complete requested duties independently.

The Kentucky Protection and Advocacy Division is part of the only legally based advocacy organization established by Congress to protect the rights of all individuals with disabilities. Kentucky Protection and Advocacy works to improve the lives of people with disabilities by guarding against abuse, neglect, and exploitation; advocating for basic rights; and ensuring access and accountability in health care, education, employment, housing, transportation, voting, and within the juvenile and criminal justice systems.

Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Drafting service contracts.
  • Preparing correspondence.
  • Performing data entry.
  • Answering phones.
  • Greeting clients as needed.
  • Preparing and distributing monthly reports.
  • Assisting with other clerical tasks.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Three years of professional, administrative, or business experience.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Additional education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Additional administrative, business, research, and/or clerical experience will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE

Working Conditions

Incumbents working in this job title primarily perform duties in an office setting.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
