The North Carolina Department of Revenue is currently accepting applications for an Administrative Specialist I (AS I) to work in the Central Examination Division’s Insurance Premium Tax and Reporting Unit. The Examination Division provides timely and effective assistance, advice, and information on tax matters to individuals, businesses, and governmental entities, and maintains the highest degree of integrity and public trust. The primary purpose of the Premium Tax and Reporting Unit is to administer the State of NC insurance premium tax laws and regulations applicable to insurance organizations and the Insurance Regulatory Charge.

The AS I’s primary purpose is to assist with the administration of the State of NC insurance premium tax laws and regulations applicable to insurance organizations and the Insurance Regulatory Charge.

This position’s essential duties are to:

• Update and maintain taxpayer information within the Insurance Premium database, including keying in of payments and tax returns

• Contact taxpayers by phone or written correspondence to obtain missing information needed to complete the processing of payments or tax returns

• Manage challenging or sensitive situations with courtesy, professionalism, and adherence to departmental guidelines

• Review and update 1099 NRS forms, ensuring completeness and accuracy in preparation for processing

• Contact closing attorneys by mail or phone for the incomplete or missing information

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

  • Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook

  • Experience using Microsoft Access Database

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Recruitment Range: $39,244 - $68,679

Minimum Education and Experience

High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of related administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
