Description

The Office of Claims and Appeals decides crime victims’ compensation claims, hears and decides appeals on tax assessments, and hears and decides negligence claims filed against any Commonwealth of Kentucky state government agency.

We are looking for an Administrative Specialist to join our team of highly skilled professionals. As an Administrative Specialist you will provide professional support to the Office of Claims. Performs duties involving the Crime Victims, Compensation Board collections program; an performs other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assist restitution and collections program coordinator with administration of complex Crime Victims Compensation Board collections program, including notifying offenders of debt owed to the agency, pursuing collection of such debts, and handling program correspondence.
  • In coordination with the Board of Claims clerk, review and process all complex Board of Claims cases, including claim entry and handling of all documents and correspondence.
  • Identify and notify claimants of claim deficiencies, prepare various orders, and communicate with parties regarding claim updates and needed information.
  • Deposit and process payments received from offenders, including ensuring proper entry into database.
  • Assist Board of Claims clerk with tracking statistics and preparation of data reports.
  • Coordinate with Department of Revenue and state correctional institutions to collect funds from offenders.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: One year of professional, administrative, or business experience.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Additional education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Additional administrative, business, research, and/or clerical experience will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Working Conditions

Incumbents working in this job title primarily perform duties in an office setting.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
