The Oregon Department of Corrections (ODOC) is seeking an Administrative Specialist 2, Evidence Technician to join our Special Investigations Unit. In this critical role, you will help ensure the integrity of criminal evidence, support investigative efforts, and contribute directly to the safety and accountability of ODOC facilities across Oregon.
This position is available for current regular status employees of the Oregon Department of Corrections or Oregon Corrections Enterprises.
This position is a limited duration anticipated to last 12 months, though, may be extended or decreased due to business need. This position is anticipated to become permanent, pending on permanent funding.
Final work location will be assigned based on State hiring requirements and operational needs at the time of appointment. The position is located at an Eastside approved institution (TRCI in Umatilla, EOCI in Pendleton, or SRCI in Ontario) and primarily supports those sites.
Evidence Technicians work collaboratively to ensure timely and consistent statewide service. Frequent travel to ODOC institutions and facilities across the state is required, including occasional travel on short notice.
About the Job – Your Role
As an Evidence Technician, you will be the trusted expert responsible for receiving, maintaining, transporting, and disposing of evidence in strict accordance with ODOC policies, as well as State and Federal laws. Your work will help maintain the integrity of investigations and ensure evidence is preserved for potential use in criminal proceedings.

This position is represented by American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). This position may be eligible for Police & Fire (P&F) benefits through Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), as defined by statute.
Minimum Qualifications
Three years of secretarial or administrative support experience that includes coordinating office procedures, preparing narrative and statistical reports, and administrative data collection and analysis;
OR
An associate degree in general office occupations and two years of secretarial or administrative support experience that includes coordinating office procedures, preparing narrative and statistical reports, and administrative data collection and analysis;
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Working Conditions
Evidence Technicians are subject to handling decomposed and odoriferous materials, sharp objects, blood, urine and other body specimens, and various controlled substances. Works with caustic and flammable liquids and is exposed to substances which may be toxic. May need to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Perform tasks that may require the incumbent to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, feel, use manual dexterity, and perform repetitive motions with or without reasonable accommodations. Work is performed indoors in an office environment, working with telephones, computers, changing priorities, interruptions, and Inspectors and ODOC staff over the telephone, in person, or via video. Visual acuity necessary to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; expansive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and operate motor vehicles.
This position may be required to travel both in-state and out-of-state, work irregular and long
hours, may include unscheduled call outs, overtime, or varying shifts. This position may be exposed to verbal abuse, harassment, threats of violence to self and/or family, be exposed to dangerous substances and chemicals or encounter physical violence on a daily basis.
The position is located at an Eastside Medium approved institution (TRCI, EOCI or SRCI). This position primarily serves the Eastside institutions; however, Evidence Technicians will work together to ensure statewide service is timely and consistent. Evidence Technicians are required to travel frequently to all DOC institutions and facilities spread across the state, sometimes on very short notice (or immediately). Evidence Technicians will transport evidence between all SIU evidence lockers and SIU Short-Term storage to SIU Long-Term storage utilizing a state vehicle.

The salary range listed above is for non-PERS qualifying applicants. PERS qualifying applicants may be eligible for an adjusted range to reflect an additional 6.95%.

Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, there may be some felony convictions that could disqualify you for this position.
