With supervisor approval, incumbents may be eligible for intermittent remote work; however, they must physically reside within the Sacramento region or have the ability to regularly report to a City of Sacramento physical worksite with little notice.
Under the direction of the Support Services Manager, this position oversees the day-to-day administrative operations of the YPCE accounting team and provides coordination and guidance to accounting staff. The position supports department-wide accounting activities, including coordinating workflows, monitoring administrative processes, and ensuring timely completion of required financial and operational tasks. The position also assists with staff training, workload coordination, and the development and implementation of procedures that support consistent and efficient departmental operations.
The ideal candidate will bring strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills, along with the ability to effectively coordinate multiple priorities and deadlines. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear and concise reports and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, are desired. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have the ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with staff, the public, and other governmental partners. Experience applying accounting principles and procedures, reviewing and analyzing information, and developing thoughtful solutions to operational issues is preferred.
Under general direction, an Administrative Officer plans, directs, and supervises centralized administrative services for a department operation; handles one or more major portions of centralized administrative services; conducts studies and makes recommendations.
This advanced journey level classification may be populated with multiple incumbents who perform human resources/personnel functions, fiscal analysis, resource development, and management functions. The Administrative Officer is distinguished from the next lower class of Administrative Analyst in that the former supervises professional level staff who perform support services work, or has the responsibility for handling major portions of centralized administrative services. The Administrative Officer is distinguished from the next higher classification of Support Services Manager in that the Support Services Manager is responsible for all administrative and regulatory processes for a departmental operation. The Administrative Officer is distinguished from the Program Specialist in that the latter has responsibility for the management and administration of large or complex programs within a department.
General direction is provided by higher-level department or division administrative staff. Responsibilities include the direct or indirect supervision of professional, technical, and clerical staff.
Four years of professional-level analytical experience.
A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in business or public administration or a closely related field.
A Master's degree from an accredited college or university in business or public administration or a closely related field may substitute for one year of the required experience.
An additional four years of qualifying professional-level experience may substituted for the required education.

Founded in 1849, the City of Sacramento is the oldest incorporated city in California. In 1920, Sacramento city voters adopted a City Charter (municipal constitution) and a City Council Manager form of government, which is still being used today.
The City Council consists of a Mayor, elected by all City voters, and eight Council members, elected to represent separate districts in the City. Each Council member is required to live in the district they represent. The Mayor and Council members serve four-year terms. Elections are staggered.
The Council establishes city policies, ordinances and land uses; approves the City’s annual budget, contracts, and agreements; hears appeals of decisions made by city staff or citizen advisory groups, and appoints four Council Officers: a City Manager, City Attorney, City Treasurer, and City Clerk. Council members serve on several working committees, which include Transportation and Community Development, Law and Legislation, and Personnel and Public Employees. The Mayor and Council members receive an annual salary and benefits.
The City Council holds public meetings most Tuesday afternoons and evenings, at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. respectively, in the City Council Chamber on the first floor of City Hall, located at 915 I Street. The Council also holds special meetings and committee meetings, which are open to the public. Agendas for City Council and Council Committee meetings are available in the City Clerk’s Office, 1st Floor, in the Historic City Hall building. The Mayor and City Council Offices are located in City Hall on the fifth Floor.
