Position Summary Information

General Description of Position

Under the direction of the Chief Information Officer, the Administrative Director, Client Services provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the College’s client-facing IT Support teams. The Director provides a professional, efficient, effective, and secure IT support experience for College staff, students, and guests.

The Director serves as a key IT leader and campus partner, aligning application strategy with institutional priorities and fostering a responsive, customer-focused service culture. In addition to technical and operational leadership, the Director plays a critical role in cultivating a positive, inclusive, and high-performing workplace culture grounded in the College’s values. Consistent with the institution’s “Goal 9” values – input, respect, compassion, reflection, positivity, and transparency – this full-time regular role:

Essential Functions

  • Strategic & Operational Leadership: Directs all client-facing IT projects, Helpdesk operations, and multi-campus Helpdesk workflows. Leads IT strategic planning and uses data-driven decision-making to align departmental goals with institutional priorities.
  • Team Development & Culture: Supervises, recruits, and evaluates a diverse team of 15+ staff across Desktop, Helpdesk, and Media Services. Cultivates a high-performing workplace by modeling Goal 9 values—input, respect, and transparency—while fostering continuous professional development.
  • Enterprise Asset & Lifecycle Management: Owns the full lifecycle of all IT assets, including annual hardware refreshes (computers, printers, and classroom AV) and secure disposal. Manages enterprise OS deployments, imaging, updates, and software licensing compliance.
  • Technical Support & Hardware Services: Oversees the troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of all client hardware (desktops, laptops, tablets, and peripherals). Provides cross-functional support for Infrastructure, Information Systems, and educational technologies like the Canvas LMS.
  • Fiscal & Educational Stewardship: Manages annual operating budgets and purchasing processes. Identifies and delivers technology training for students, faculty, and staff to maximize the ROI of the college’s technology investments.

Marginal Functions

  1. Committee Representation: Serves on non-IT-specific college committees or cross-departmental task forces as directed by the CIO.
  2. External Liaison: Represents the college’s IT department at professional conferences, local community events, or vendor networking sessions.
  3. Interim Coverage: Briefly assumes responsibilities for other IT directors during short-term absences or vacations.
  4. Policy Review Support: Assists in reviewing general college-wide administrative policies that are not strictly related to IT operations.
  5. Routine Reporting: Prepares administrative reports for other college departments as requested by the CIO.
  6. May be required to perform associated duties, functions, or assignments in other divisions/programs/areas as required.
  7. Perform other College functions and duties as assigned.
  8. Must be able to work varied days, hours, shifts, locations, and campuses as required. Work schedules (hours/days/work location) are scheduled by Southeast Community College based on the needs of the College. Work hours, shifts, days, and work locations may vary depending on the needs of Southeast Community College and are subject to modification. Emergency or scheduled special activities may require hours outside of the regular workweek.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Technical Infrastructure: Comprehensive knowledge of diverse client hardware and enterprise operating systems (Windows, macOS, iOS).
  2. Asset & Lifecycle Management: Expert understanding of IT asset tracking systems and the strategic planning of annual hardware refresh cycles.
  3. System Deployment: Proficiency in enterprise-level imaging and deployment tools for desktops, laptops, and tablets.
  4. Strategic Service Delivery: Demonstrated expertise in managing Helpdesk systems and service standards to provide an exceptional support experience for all users.
  5. Executive Communication: Exceptional ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders and maintain professional relationships across all institutional levels.
  6. Collaborative Leadership: Skilled in fostering a culture of camaraderie and Goal 9 values—input, transparency, and respect—while managing a large, multi-campus technical team.
  7. Ability to communicate effectively in writing, in person, and on the phone.
  8. Ability to use basic computer skills.
  9. Ability to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds for short distances and move tables, chairs, and media equipment when necessary.
  10. The individual must possess the above skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business, or a related field (e.g., Mathematics, Statistics, or Psychology).
  2. Five (5) years of progressive experience within a large-scale information technology organization, including direct supervisory experience of technical teams.

Desired Qualifications

  1. Master’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  2. Prior experience in a higher education or multi-campus community college environment.
  3. Experience leading digital transformation or large-scale service improvement initiatives.
  4. Prior experience effectively communicating technical information to customers.
  5. Proven success leading large-scale system implementations or modernization efforts.

Salary

$95,544 per year

Benefits

SCC BEN Dollars – Eligible Employees: Full-time status. Regular employees with an FTE of 0.75 or greater will be eligible for SCC Ben Dollars. All employees will be required to elect a health insurance option. If the cost of insurance coverage selected by an employee exceeds the SCC Ben Dollars available, all additional costs will be withheld from the employee’s paycheck. Any SCC Ben Dollars that the employee does not elect to use for the purchase of dependent health and dental insurance will be paid to the employee in cash at $0.93 per $1.00 benefit dollar. All amounts paid are subject to withholding for income and employment taxes, but not subject to the College’s contribution toward the Retirement Savings Plan – Group Retirement Account (GRA).

Schedule

Normal working hours for this full-time regular position are scheduled between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, requiring a minimum of a 40-hour workweek, based on a 260-day work calendar. Scheduled special activities, emergencies, or temporary schedule changes may require hours outside of the regular workday or workweek. Regular travel between campus locations is required to ensure consistent leadership and oversight of distributed teams. Occasional evening and weekend work is required for scheduled system maintenance, technology refreshes, or emergency response for critical outages. The position is primarily an on-campus assignment, with some flexibility for remote work, at the discretion of the position’s supervisor.
