Responsibilities

  • You will perform a variety of technical and specialized professional and administrative duties for the Building Codes Act, the SC Modular Buildings Construction Act, the Code Enforcement Officers/Special Inspectors Registration Act, and the Construction of Public Buildings for Access by Handicapped Persons Act.
  • You will coordinate and manage state funds allocated for code enforcement officer continuing education and examinations and process all examination and continuing education requests.
  • You will provide administrative support to the Board Executive, coordinate board travel and process travel reimbursements.
  • You will assist with the preparation of board meetings, including scheduling and preparing for the meetings, and preparing and distributing board meeting minutes.
  • You will coordinate and facilitate complaint and disciplinary hearing procedures, including tracking and monitoring compliance, the payment of fines, and attendance of disciplinary and/or corrective educational courses.
  • You will review applications for education programs offered by vendors, process examination certificates and continuing education verification documents and tracking compliance.
  • You will perform other administrative functions such as responding to inquiries received through walk-ins, telephone calls, e-mails, and other methods, assisting with FOIA requests, preparing information for and updating the Boards’ websites and databases, serving as a records liaison, and performing other administrative and financial duties in support of the area.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A high school diploma and relevant experience in business management, public administration, or administrative services. (A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the required work experience).

Preferred Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of relevant program experience.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of office management and general administrative functions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in interpreting and applying relevant laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to understand and follow routine and complex instructions.
  • Considerable skill in the use of office equipment, computers, and Microsoft products.

Other Requirements

  • Position works in an office environment with extended periods of sitting and standing.
  • May require occasional work outside of normal office hours.
  • May be required to lift, carry, move and/or position objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Daily filing, data entry, telephone and computer use.
