The mission of the Louisiana Veterans Homes is to primarily serve the Veterans' population of Louisiana through the provision of medical, restorative, and rehabilitative services in an atmosphere of respect and compassion. The primary objective of the home is to provide quality nursing care to eligible veterans with the ultimate goal of returning the veterans to the highest possible levels of physical and mental capacity. This position is located in the Nursing Department of the Northwest LA Veterans Home in Bossier City, Louisiana.

We’re looking for a hardworking, detail-oriented coordinator to work in the Nursing Central Supply Section.

Supplemental information

Job Duties:

  • Responsible for generating physicians’ computer orders, regenerating after corrective action is applied, and generating physicians’ orders on a monthly basis. Responsible for obtaining the physician’s signature upon completion of review of orders and placing on resident’s medical record in a timely manner.

  • Responsible for backing up orders from the Electronic Medical Records for emergencies.

  • Maintains Emergency Evacuation List. &Trains new employees on the Pioneer System.

  • Organizes and stocks Central Supply Inventory.

  • Notifies DON or delegate of supply and equipment needs or discrepancies.

  • Distributes supplies to the nursing wing supply closets, med room, and nurse’s station cabinets as requested.

  • Secures a written requisition from the staff for supplies needed to maintain proper documentation.

  • Serves as a backup to the Nursing Department purchasing agent.

  • Assists in coordinating and gathering the needs list for yearly Fiscal Budgets.

  • Manages the Central Supply area for the Nursing Department in a Medicare Certified facility, which is subject to external audits by the Medicare Program Integrity on a routine basis.

  • Orders all supplies, medical, clerical, and hygiene supplies as needed.

  • Contact vendors for information regarding their products and coordinate with the facility purchasing agent to ensure the product/supply is on contract or will require a different avenue for purchasing.

  • Maintains a perpetual inventory of all operating supplies located in the Central Supply area and supplies stored in other areas of the facility.

  • Completes requisitions and submits them to the purchasing agent in a timely manner to ensure that adequate supplies are available to meet the needs of the residents at all times.

  • Maintains documentation on supplies issued to residents who reside in a Medicare Part A-certified bed.

  • Provide information to the Medicare Accounting personnel who will use this information to calculate costs associated with the resident’s stay for cost reports as mandated by regulation.
