About Us

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. of Work

This position is located at Maury Correctional Institution in Greene County, NC.
This position has responsibility for a variety of general duties, correspondence management, record keeping, filing, database management and telephone responsibilities. This position will have day to day contact with the staff, public and offenders.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

This position will provide typing and disseminating information throughout the facility. Telephone calls including contact from other staff and other sections of the Department of Adult Correction locations, contact with other agencies and occasional contact from businesses such as vendors and service providers. Public contact will be on a daily basis for this position and will typically involve scheduling appointments, switchboard operation, providing information and following up on inquiries. This position may be responsible for usage orders, various inventories, reconciliation of P-Cards, Site Security and other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Employees work in a variety of environments and may work individually or in combination with other office support or employees. Employees in this position independently perform a variety of tasks that involve some scope or consequence in support of an office operation, program or work unit. Employees may spend a large percentage of time operating office equipment. The completion of work often involves a public contact role to obtain, clarify or provide general information regarding the activities of the work unit or program. Work requires a general knowledge of office policies and procedures in order to communicate information, functions and services of the facility. T he work schedule is normally 40 hours per week, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with an hour lunch break.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences:

Salary Range: $31,200 - $51,249

Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

• Documented composition and communication skills (written and oral)

• Documented proficiency in Microsoft Office programs

About the Division of Institutions

The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.
