Administrative Assistant (Part-Time, 17.5 hrs./week)

This role is the operational backbone of the BYU Research and Writing Center (RWC). We need an organized, people-savvy operator to keep our center running. You'll own the hiring, scheduling, and day-to-day support for a team of about 60 undergraduate tutors while keeping our office, events, and digital systems running smoothly.

What you’ll do in this position:

  • Manage the full hiring cycle for 55–60 undergraduate writing tutors each semester, including recruitment, onboarding, wage increases and offboarding
  • Build and maintain the semester tutor schedule, including collecting availability, processing substitutions, tracking attendance, and communicating changes
  • Review and approve weekly timecards in Workday, and handle mispunches
  • Plan and execute RWC events including tutor trainings, retreats, staff socials, and campus outreach—coordinating with the English Department, University Writing, the Library, and other campus partners
  • Maintain and update the RWC website, WCOnline scheduling platform, and Canvas training modules each semester
  • Track and report WCOnline usage statistics; compile semester-end data reports for center coordinators
  • Manage office operations including supply purchases, budget reconciliation, IT service requests, and physical space upkeep

What qualifies you for this role:

Required

  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
  • Two or more years of higher education (completed coursework or equivalent) with familiarity with university programs and priorities
  • Office management experience, including scheduling, communications, and administrative coordination
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Proven ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience working with or supervising student employees
  • Familiarity with Writing Center operations or academic support environments
  • Writing tutor experience
  • Proficiency with Workday, WCOnline, Canvas, or similar platforms

Pay Grade: 48

Typical Starting Pay: $20.25 to $26.50 an hour
