Job Description

Starting Pay $13.37 per hour

This position creates and processes Work Orders for the repair of vehicles in Fleet Services and performs a variety of duties required in the operation of Fleet Services.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Under supervision, assists in the preparation and maintenance of various records and reports, requiring use of math, personal computer and data entry skills.
  • Assists in performing routine office duties such as making copies, preparing routine correspondence and the like.
  • Maintains electronic and paper files in an orderly and organized manner, assists in records management activities and in preparing responses to Open Records requests.
  • Answers phones, answering questions and responding to complaints in a courteous and concise manner, directing the caller to the appropriate staff member for assistance, and/or taking and delivering detailed messages for the appropriate staff member.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Requires a High School Diploma or its equivalent and one year of office experience. Knowledge of bookkeeping, accounting, or recordkeeping is preferred. Valid Texas Driver’s License required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Good math skills.
  • Good communication skills, an eagerness to learn, willing to take and follow instruction, adaptable to changes, and willingness to accept responsibilities.
  • Ability to handle confidential information in the appropriate manner.
  • Ability and willingness to take selected City held PC classes as deemed necessary by supervisor.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment including a calculator, copier, and multi-line telephone system.
  • Ability to use a computer for data entry, word processing and accounting purposes (Word/Excel preferred).

Amarillo is the 14th-largest city in the state of Texas, the largest in the Texas Panhandle, and the seat of Potter County. A portion of the city extends into Randall County. The population was 173,627 at the 2000 census. The Amarillo metropolitan area has an estimated population of 236,113 in four counties. In July 2009, the population was estimated at 189,389.

In 1913, Amarillo became the first Texas city and the fifth in United States to use the council-manager form of municipal government, with all governmental powers resting in a legislative body called a commission. Amarillo's commission is composed of five elected commissioners, one of whom is the mayor of the city. The mayor and each commissioner serves a two-year term. The role of the commission is to pass ordinances and resolutions, adopt regulations, and appoint city officials, including the city manager. While the mayor serves as a presiding officer of the commission, the city manager is the administrative head of the municipal government, and is responsible for the administration of all departments. The city commission holds its regular meetings on Tuesday of each week.
