What you will do:

This position is responsible for independent work assisting the Chief Legal Counsel in proivding analysis and research on a variety of aministrative matters. Serves as the Chief Legal Counsel in the capacity as paralegal. Work involves assignments which are broad as to content and require independently making decisions and obtaining solutions by operating within well-established policies, laws, rules and guidelines.

  • Acts as district liaison for public records requests and subpoenas duces tecum
  • Receives and routes telephone calls, answering questions which may involve interpretation of policies and procedures and standrad legal questions previously researched by an attorney
  • Performs legal research and writing as requested, including matters relating to personnel, grievances, PERC and EEO
  • Acts as district liaison for juvenile incompetent to proceed program
  • Maintains court calendars and executive assignment logs
  • Manages confidential legal and case files and programmatic records and files
  • Receives and processes incoming mail.
  • Processes invoices, time sheets, travel and other administrative tasks
  • Performs notary services (state will pay for notarization)
  • Drafts and prepares a variety of legal documents to be filed in circuit, county, appellate and administrative proceedings under the supervision of an attorney. Drafts general correspondence and reports.
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

Knowledge of administrative principles and practices, office procedures and practices, legal terminology. Ability to collect, evaluate and analyze data, prepare correspondence and reports; understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures, communicate effectively verbally and in writing, work independently.
