Summary

The South Carolina Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics (GSSM) seeks a General Maintenance Technician. This is a permanent, full-time (12-month position, with benefits provided through the State of South Carolina. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.

The Administrative Assistant will provide assistance to the Campus Operations Manager, along with assisting the Facilities and Public Safety Offices at the Governor's School for Science and Mathematics. Works Primarily with the Campus Operations Manager to coordinate institutional shipping and receiving, assists in bus vehicle operations, and helps coordinate maintenance work orders and laundry operations.

Responsibilities of the Administrative Assistant:

  • Receives and ships all packages and mail on behalf of the institution and its employees. Distributes all mail in a timely and accurate manner. Maintains institutional mailboxes and updates internal mailboxes to reflect changes in the employee roster. Ensures all packages are kept in a secure location and picked up within two weeks of receipt.
  • Serves as liaison between institutional stakeholders and the Department of Facilities to manage the institutional work request system. Prioritizes work requests and works with the Campus Operations Specialist and the Director of Facilities to dispatch maintenance workers and/or coordinate with external vendors to fulfill work requests. Updates the system to reflect work order status and serves as the point of contact for facilities. Assists with coordinating the Facilities Department for event setup and breakdown.
  • Assists and coordinates with the Campus Operations Manager and Vice President of Student Development and Operation to ensure all vehicles are appropriately insured, and all insurance claims are timely and accurately filed. Assists with planning interim travel for students and faculty under the direction and the Director of Public Safety.
  • Assists the Campus Operations Manager and Residence Life with coordinating and streamlining the institution's laundry operations. Check laundry equipment each week to ensure all equipment is functioning appropriately. Serves as the institutional liaison with the laundry service provider.
  • Works in coordination with the institution's Facilities, IT, and Procurement offices to log all assets valued at $5,000 or more or as requested. Maintains asset management system and utilizes the system to routinely schedule preventative maintenance, as required.
  • Ensures custodial supplies are ample and maintained. Conducts weekly inventory supply checks and ensures all supplies are properly accounted for and securely maintained. Contacts contractors on behalf of facilities and public safety as needed. Provides as-needed front desk support, including answering the institutional telephone line and providing excellent customer service to callers, visitors, and students. Assist with phone lines. Performs other duties as assigned.

Examples of duties

A high school diploma and work experience that is directly related to the area of employment. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the related experience. Experience working in an administrative office and responding to multiple needs at a time required.
