In Alberta, the positions of the Alberta Ombudsman and Public Interest Commissioner are held by the same person and the main offices are co-located in Edmonton. There is a second Ombudsman office located in Calgary.
The Alberta Ombudsman provides oversight of the provincial government to ensure fair treatment through independent investigations, recommendations and education within Alberta government authorities, professional organizations, municipalities, and the Patient Concerns Resolution Process of Alberta Health Services. Under the authority of the Ombudsman Act, the Ombudsman can investigate written complaints received from any individual or group or commence an investigation on his own motion or at the request of a Minister.
Under the authority of the Public Interest Disclosure (Whistleblower Protection) Act (PIDA), the Public Interest Commissioner oversees the disclosure and investigation of serious and significant matters in or relating to departments, public entities, offices of the Legislature and political offices, that are unlawful, dangerous to the public or injurious to the public interest. PIDA protects employees who make those disclosures, and the Commissioner is also responsible for investigating complaints where employees allege reprisal action has been taken against them.

The Alberta Ombudsman / Public Interest Commissioner is seeking a proactive, professional, and organized individual to join our team on a temporary, 15-month term
As a key support member, you will assist with both administrative tasks and front-line service, playing a vital role in the efficient day-to-day operations of the office. You will also provide comprehensive administrative support to the Alberta Ombudsman / Public Interest Commissioner and the Senior Management Team when necessary.
This dynamic position requires strong communication, time management, and multitasking skills. If you are a detail-oriented individual with a passion for problem-solving and teamwork, we want to hear from you!
A high school diploma plus two years of related experience is required, but equivalencies may be considered. An Administrative Professional Diploma or Certificate is considered an asset.
