Job Description
The Clinical Faculty Mentor provides supervised summer clinical mentorship to pre-clinical medical students (MS1/MS2) as part of the PAFP-funded Family Medicine Pipeline Program at DUCOM. Mentors offer direct patient care observation, clinical skills exposure, and professional development guidance to cultivate interest in family medicine. Mentors may facilitate didactic workshops and participate in program activities as needed.
Essential Functions
- Provide supervised clinical mentorship to MS1/MS2 students, including guided patient observation in family medicine settings.
- Model professional clinical reasoning, patient communication, and family medicine practice patterns
- Facilitate workshops or case-based learning sessions on family medicine, primary care, and health equity as needed
- Participate in program orientation, check-ins, and end-of-program reflection activities
- Provide informal academic and career mentorship on primary care pathways and residency considerations
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- MD/DO (active unrestricted medical license)
- 2+ years of clinical practice; family medicine or primary care preferred
Preferred Qualifications
- Faculty appointment at DUCOM or affiliated institutions
- Prior experience mentoring medical students; experience in health equity-focused clinical education or community health settings
- Familiarity with competency-based medical education; interest in workforce development for students
- Strong clinical communication and patient care skills’ ability to mentor early-stage medical students; commitment to family medicine pipeline development
