Job Description Summary
The incumbent in this position will assist with college courses for undergraduate students in the Veterinary Medical Technology Program. This individual must possess the knowledge and skills to teach and supervise students in classroom, lab and clinical settings with an emphasis on large animal clinical medicine and out patient procedures. They must also exhibit a positive attitude toward students and the teaching process, and serve as a positive and professional role model.
Duties
The incumbent in this position will assist with college courses for undergraduate students in the Veterinary Medical Technology Program. This individual must possess the knowledge and skills to teach and supervise students in classroom, lab and clinical settings. They must also exhibit a positive attitude toward students and the teaching process, and serve as a positive role model.
The incumbent in this position will assist a lead instructor with college courses, particularly Large Animal Clinical Practices Lab, for undergraduate students in the Veterinary Medical Technology Program. This individual must possess the knowledge and skills to teach and supervise students in lab and clinical settings. They must also exhibit a positive attitude toward students and the teaching process, and serve as a positive role model.
1. Supervise and assist students in lab and/or clinical environments incorporating knowledge, expertise and flexibility to ensure safety and student learning.
2. Suggest/help develop teaching materials, activities and handouts for the course assigned.
3. Assist in lab or clinic;
4. Collaborate with departmental personnel in curriculum revisions/updates which reflect changing trends, information and technologies and ensure compliance with the American Veterinary Association, Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities approved standards for the curriculum and the Criteria of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
5. Abide by policies, standards, goals and objectives of the College and Department.
6. Participate in assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation activities to improve the instructional quality of the program.
7. Practice, teach and supervise students to facilitate compliance with OSHA standards related to veterinary medicine.
8. Maintain professional certification ( RVT licensure in the state of NC) and seek opportunities for professional development through study, seminars, and/or on-the-job practice.
9. Serve as resource to veterinary community and community at large.
10. Other duties as assign.
Minimum Requirements
1. Graduate of a regional accredited veterinary technology program;
2. Minimum of an Associate’s degree;
3. Minimum three years of work experience in veterinary medicine;
4. Minimum one years of work experience in large animal veterinary medicine or large animal related experience;
5. Unrestricted licensure with the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Board.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited veterinary technology program;
2. Five years of work experience in large animal veterinary medicine;
3. Teaching experience at the college level;
4. Teaching experience with veterinary technology students.
