PRINCIPAL PURPOSE OF JOB:
The School of Psychology in the College of Arts and Sciences at Kentucky State University invites applications for a part-time Adjunct Instructor and Clinical Practicum Supervisor for graduate-level coursework, with primary responsibility for clinical practicum and field placement supervision.
The Instructor of Record is responsible for delivering high-quality, in-person clinical seminar instruction, providing direct and continuous clinical supervision, and evaluating the applied competencies of graduate students enrolled in the Master of Arts in Psychology program. The incumbent will coordinate and monitor external field placements across community mental health centers, state agencies, and correctional settings, ensuring that all practicum hours, supervisory ratios, and evaluative records strictly comply with statutory and administrative benchmarks established by the Kentucky Board of Examiners of Psychology (KBEP) and the regional accreditation standards of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
Additionally, the role supports institutional academic transformation goals under legislative directives (including Senate Bill 185) by delivering an applied, workforce-aligned behavioral health curriculum.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Course Delivery & Practicum Oversight: Serve as the official Instructor of Record for graduate clinical practicum courses, conducting scheduled on-campus seminar meetings and applied clinical case reviews.
- Clinical Supervision & Board Compliance: Provide direct individual and group clinical case supervision to ensure enrolled students meet board-mandated clock hours of supervised professional experience required for state psychological associate credentialing.
- Supervisory Authority & Record Certification: Maintain contemporaneous supervisory logs and verify clinical practice documentation in strict accordance with Kentucky administrative regulations governing psychology supervision, ensuring direct clinical oversight meets all board requirements for doctoral-level licensed supervisors.
- Field Placement Coordination: Collaborate with approved external clinical placement sites (including community mental health agencies, state behavioral health facilities, and forensic settings) to monitor student performance, resolve placement issues, and conduct formal mid-term and final clinical competency evaluations.
- Academic Administration & LMS Maintenance: Build and maintain an active, fully developed course shell within the university’s Learning Management System (Canvas) prior to the start of the semester; hold regular office hours; enforce university attendance policies; and submit official mid-term and final grades by published Academic Affairs deadlines.
- Accreditation Support: Assist the School Chairperson and Dean’s Office in compiling student learning outcome (SLO) assessment data and clinical portfolio artifacts to support institutional accreditation under SACSCOC Standard 6.2.a and programmatic accreditation alignment.
OTHER DUTIES:
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Duties may evolve based on university or programmatic needs

- Board Supervisory Standing: Demonstrated qualification and eligibility to serve as an approved clinical supervisor pursuant to state psychology board administrative regulations (201 KAR 26:171).
- Clinical Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of post-licensure clinical practice in behavioral health, psychological assessment, or forensic mental health services.
Preferred Qualifications
- HSP Designation: Active Health Service Provider (HSP) credential through KBEP.
- Instructional Experience: Prior experience teaching graduate-level clinical psychology or practicum supervision courses at a regionally accredited college or university.
- Forensic Background: Demonstrated clinical experience in forensic mental health assessment, correctional settings, court-mandated evaluations, or public sector behavioral health pipelines.
- LMS Proficiency: Demonstrated competence utilizing Canvas and digital clinical tracking platforms.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
- Modality Expectations: This position strictly requires in-person, on-campus instructional delivery and face-to-face supervisory conferences at the Frankfort campus. Remote, virtual, or hybrid instruction is not approved for this clinical practicum role unless specifically authorized in advance by the Dean's Office and the Provost.
- Legislative & Financial Parameters (SB 185): In compliance with state legislative transformation frameworks and financial exigency governance under Senate Bill 185, this appointment is compensated on a standard per-course adjunct stipend model that falls below external agency prior-approval expenditure caps. Payout is contingent upon finalized course enrollment; executing a Personnel Action Form (PAF) establishes system credentials and does not constitute a guaranteed financial obligation if a section is canceled prior to the term.
- Employment Contingencies & Background Check: Employment is strictly contingent upon the successful completion of a comprehensive pre-employment background investigation, credential authentication via official graduate transcripts sent directly from the degree-granting institution to Human Resources, and primary-source verification of licensure status with KBEP.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: This position does not have any supervisory responsibility.
Licensing and Certifications:
- Professional Licensure: Active, unencumbered license as a Licensed Psychologist (LP) or Licensed Psychological Practitioner (LPP) issued by the Kentucky Board of Examiners of Psychology (KBEP) under KRS Chapter 319, or active doctoral-level psychology licensure in another U.S. jurisdiction with verified, immediate eligibility for Kentucky reciprocity/endorsement.
