Indian River State College invites qualified professionals and educators to join our adjunct faculty team. In this role, you will deliver engaging oceanography instruction, connect scientific concepts to real-world applications, and inspire students to explore the dynamic relationships between Earth's oceans and the world around them.

**This position is open only to candidates who reside in the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Idaho, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia. ** Due to business and employment compliance requirements, we are unable to consider applicants who reside outside these states.

JOB SUMMARY:

Provides college-level instruction in oceanography and related marine science disciplines in accordance with established curriculum, course objectives, and learning outcomes. Prepares and delivers lectures, discussions, laboratory activities, and other instructional activities; evaluates and documents student learning and performance; maintains accurate course and attendance records; and provides appropriate academic guidance and feedback.

Maintains current knowledge of the discipline and utilizes appropriate instructional technologies and learning management systems. Promotes an inclusive, engaging, and academically rigorous learning environment; complies with College policies and procedures and established instructional and reporting requirements; communicates effectively with students and College personnel; and participates in departmental activities and professional development as assigned.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The specific duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

· Instructing assigned classes; grading all quizzes, tests, and written assignment;

· Assigning final grades and delivering grades;

· Maintaining a safe and effective classroom environment;

· Participating in general adjunct faculty meetings;

· Completing other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Required;

• Master’s degree in a discipline of Oceanography;
• or Master’s degree in an Earth Science (as defined for ESC courses) or a related marine science subfield with at least six (6) graduate semester hours in a discipline of Oceanography;
• or Master’s degree and 18 graduate semester hours in Oceanography
• Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written;
• Ability to work with and teach to diverse populations is essential;
• Ability to apply traditional and innovative technologies is essential;
• Ability to develop and/or implement strategies to support students’ retention, persistence, and program completion is essential;
• Ability to use data and assessment tools in the evaluation and improvement of instruction;
• Ability to engage students as active partners in the teaching/learning process;
• Ability to relate the concepts of biology to real life situations and applications;
• Computer literacy and experience using technology in the learning environment is essential;

Preferred;

• An understanding of learning styles is preferred; willingness to learn is essential;
• Appropriate credentialing requirements to meet all current and future accreditation requirements;
• Experience teaching in an online environment preferred;
• Experience teaching at a two-year post-secondary institution preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position requires an ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time and to present oral lectures/demonstrations, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds. Some lifting of computer and electronic equipment may be required. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary. Indian River State College expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
