The Management Communication Program at the Stern School of Business is accepting applications for adjunct instructors in its first-year core writing courses. This writing-intensive curriculum examines the relationship between business and society to build students’ writing and critical-thinking skills while introducing them to business inquiry.
The fall course, Commerce & Culture, focuses on representations of business in fiction—novels, films, plays, and short stories. Through discussion-based sessions and analytical papers, students examine how texts portray the interplay of market forces, society, and individuals. The spring course, Business & Society, turns to the theoretical texts underlying economic and business discourse (from Adam Smith to Elinor Ostrom to R. Edward Freeman), teaching students to engage with conceptual texts and apply them to contemporary business situations. Writing assignments include analytical claims about conceptual ideas, research-based analysis of social issues, and proposals for business action.
Adjunct Faculty at Stern are part-time instructors, hired on a term-by-term basis. Responsibilities typically include teaching one to two classes per year. Most appointments are made 6-9 months in advance. However, applications are welcome at any time and will be kept on file for future openings.
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the contact hour rate for the positions are:
Adjunct Assistant Professor: $300 - $470
Adjunct Associate Professor: $380 - $500
Adjunct Professor: $400 - $650
This rate is based on the collective bargaining agreement with Local 7902.
