Position Summary Information

General Description of Position

Under the general direction and supervision of the Associate Dean and Program Chair(s), the Adjunct Instructor position involves instructing students in a variety of Welding Technology courses in a campus classroom, online/remote, hybrid, and/or off-campus setting. This is a part-time, temporary position and is part of a pooled adjunct faculty posting for the 2026–2027 academic year.

Essential Functions

Provide Instruction in Assigned Subject Areas

1. Provide instruction to students according to the objectives of each course assigned.
2. Utilize a variety of instructional strategies in the classroom, online, hybrid, or lab setting that are appropriate to individual student needs and may include, but are not limited to, lectures, small groups, demonstrations, and computer-assisted instruction.

Provide For Student Evaluation and Record-keeping

1. Prepare and administer evaluation instruments and maintain accurate student records on attendance, achievement, and progress.
2. Assist in gathering and interpreting data for department assessment.

Marginal Functions

1. Operate and utilize as part of the teaching process, appropriate audiovisual equipment (e.g., multimedia workstation, document camera, smart board, online learning management system, etc.).
2. May be required to perform associated duties, functions, or assignments in other divisions/programs/areas as required.
3. Perform other College functions and duties as assigned.
4. Must be able to work varied days, hours, shifts, locations, and campuses as required. Work schedules (hours/days/work location) are scheduled by Southeast Community College based on the needs of the College. Work hours, shifts, days, and work locations may vary depending on the needs of Southeast Community College and are subject to modification. Emergency or scheduled special activities may require hours outside of the regular workweek.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

1. Current knowledge of and ability/skill to teach Welding Technology courses.
2. Ability/skill to develop and incorporate a variety of engaged learning teaching strategies and techniques in the classroom and in online courses.
3. Ability/skill to relate to colleagues, staff, students, and supervisors of diverse backgrounds in a positive and cooperative manner.
4. Ability to devise and utilize appropriate evaluation methods for classroom use.
5. Ability to communicate effectively in writing, in person, and on the phone.
6. Ability to use basic computer skills.
7. Ability to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds for short distances and move tables, chairs, and media equipment when necessary.
8. The individual must possess the above skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Associate Degree in Welding Technology.
2. Two (2) years of welding experience related to the area of assigned instruction in the Welding Technology Program.
3. Must obtain CWE Certification or higher (CWI) within three (3) years of the employment date.

Desired Qualifications

1. Experience with engaged learning lesson planning/delivery.
2. Experience teaching high school dual-credit courses.
3. Experience teaching at a community college.
4. Experience working with adult learners.
5. Experience working with diverse populations of students at various levels of language ability, skills, and learning abilities.
6. Possess CWI or CWE endorsement.

This is a part-time, temporary position with assignments based on program needs.
