General Description of Position
Under the general direction and supervision of the Director of Leisure Learning, the Adjunct of Leisure Learning will conduct a class related to their expertise. The Continuing Education Division Leisure Learning program is continuously seeking part-time instructors to teach non-credit/community educational offerings in the area of leisure learning. Opportunities vary widely. If you have a self-designed curriculum you would like to propose for the division, please complete the application. Class selection is made on a term-by-term basis.
The Leisure Learning program seeks qualified instructors to provide affordable, varied, and outstanding non-credit lifelong learning opportunities to Lincoln/Lancaster County residents.
Adjunct instructors provide local residents with positive educational experiences, teach valuable new skills, and provide community involvement.
Proposals will be considered for additional review based on factors including but not limited to community demand, relevance to SCC Continuing Education objectives, existing courses, and the course’s potential for cost recovery.
Application and class proposals do not guarantee acceptance.
Essential Functions
Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging instruction for noncredit community education and leisure learning classes in accordance with approved course descriptions and program objectives.
Create and maintain a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment that encourages student participation and lifelong learning.
Communicate effectively with students and Continuing Education staff regarding class expectations, schedules, materials, attendance, and program needs.
Maintain accurate attendance and class records, submit required documentation in a timely manner, and follow all college policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
Promote a Culture of Belonging Support and promote an environment of belonging where all students, faculty members, and college employees feel welcomed, valued, and empowered to contribute. Foster a community where each individual and their varied perspectives enrich the educational experience and create a safe and respectful environment. Support the College’s policies and programming related to access, fair employment, and equal opportunities for all.
Marginal Functions
Provide recommendations for future course topics, materials, or programming opportunities.
Assist with classroom setup, cleanup, and organization of instructional materials and supplies.
Support student retention and engagement efforts through informal follow-up communication.
Provide feedback regarding classroom facilities, equipment, or instructional needs.
Contribute ideas for improving student experience and program quality.
May be required to perform associated duties, functions, or assignments in other divisions/programs/areas as required.
Perform other College functions and duties as assigned.
Must be able to work varied days, hours, shifts, locations, and campuses as required. Work schedules (hours/days/work location) are scheduled by Southeast Community College based on the needs of the College. Work hours, shifts, days, and work locations may vary depending on the needs of Southeast Community College and are subject to modification. Emergency or scheduled special activities may require hours outside of the regular workweek.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge and demonstrated expertise in the subject area being taught.
Ability to communicate effectively and engage adult learners with varying backgrounds and skill levels.
Skill in creating a positive, inclusive, and respectful learning environment.
Ability to organize and deliver instructional content in an effective and understandable manner.
Ability to work professionally and collaboratively with students, staff, and community members while following college policies and procedures.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing, in person, and on the phone.
Ability to use basic computer skills.
Ability to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds for short distances and move tables, chairs, and media equipment when necessary.
The individual must possess the above skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
Minimum Qualifications
Demonstrated subject matter expertise relevant to the course topic.
Desired Qualifications
Prior teaching or training experience preferred.
