Job Description

& Overview:
The Department of Natural Sciences at Merrimack College invites applications for an Adjunct Instructor to teach Immunology, BIO3012 during the Fall 2026 semester. This course will be cross-listed for undergraduate and graduate students and will introduce students to the fundamental principles of immunology while providing opportunities for more advanced study and application at the graduate level.

The course will cover major topics in cellular and molecular immunology, including innate and adaptive immunity, immune cell development and function, antigen recognition and presentation, antibody structure and function, cytokine signaling, immune tolerance, hypersensitivity, autoimmunity, immunodeficiency, transplantation, vaccines, and the immune response to infectious disease. Connections to current research and clinical applications of immunology will be incorporated throughout the course.

Course Meeting Times:

  • The in-person course is scheduled for Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 1:15-2:30 pm.

The instructor will be responsible for delivering course content appropriate for both undergraduate and graduate students, developing and administering assessments, grading student work, maintaining course materials through the College's learning management system, and providing appropriate differentiated expectations and assignments for students enrolled at the graduate level.

Qualifications:

  • Hold at least a master's degree in Biology or a closely related field; a doctoral degree is preferred.

  • Be prepared to teach a course serving both undergraduate and graduate students and to establish appropriate graduate-level expectations for students enrolled in the graduate section.

  • College-level teaching experience is highly desirable.

  • Experience utilizing learning management systems (e.g., Canvas) and instructional technology is highly desirable.

Compensation

Minimum: $5,000 per 4-credit course

Minimum: $3,750 per lab section

The actual pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as, but not limited to, candidate qualifications and prior experience, scope of responsibilities, internal equity, and market considerations.
