Position Summary Information

General Description of Position
Under the general direction and supervision of the Assistant Director, ESL adjunct instructors are responsible for supporting students’ English as a Second Language development from true beginner to career/college-ready academic levels through whole-class and/or online instruction in leveled ESL classes.

The ESL adjunct instructor is responsible for supporting up to 16 ESL students as they use in-class, text-based, and/or online materials to build English language skills in leveled ESL classes. They create lesson plans, introduce students to text-based and online study programs, conduct high-quality, interactive face-to-face and/or online classes, use data from regular measurements of students’ progress to guide instruction, and support students in and out of class to achieve learning goals.

There are 3 types of instruction in the SCC ESL Program:
  • SCC ESL program classes: Classes meet 6 hours a week in the morning or evenings by Zoom or at SCC campus locations. Classes meet for 4 quarters. Classes are leveled by English ability.
  • SCC ESL Learning Centers: Multi-level classes that meet 3 hours per week with open enrollment for students enrolled in the program to gain additional practice and to help newly oriented students prepare to join the next available quarter.
  • Family Literacy classes: Classes meet 5 days a week for 2 hours each morning at select LPS schools. Classes are multi-level with semi-open enrollment for parents of LPS elementary students.

This is a part-time temporary position and is part of a pooled adjunct faculty posting for the 2026–2027 academic year. Paid training is available and required.
