Job Description

The Writing & Communication Program in the Department of English at Carnegie Mellon has teaching opportunities for foundational first-year writing courses and invites applications from qualified instructors. As the need arises, we will contact those applicants whose instructional and scholarly experience is a strong match for the open position(s). Positions will be part-time, non-tenure-track, starting in August 2026 and may be renewable based on availability and performance, including proven quality of instruction and dedication to participating in program assessment initiatives and ongoing educational innovations.

Qualifications

Previous experience with college writing instruction and evidence of excellence in teaching required. PhD preferred, however candidates with other advanced degrees or ABD status will be considered. Degrees should be in Rhetoric and Composition, Literature, Creative Writing, Applied Linguistics, or a closely related field. Candidates with degrees from other disciplines who demonstrate a sustained commitment to writing pedagogy may also be considered.
