Description
The College of Business is seeking a qualified and dynamic Adjunct Faculty Member to teach SLM-225: Sport Marketing, a required course for Sport Management majors. This course applies core marketing concepts — including market segmentation, sport products and licensed merchandise, sponsorship-linked marketing, venue execution strategies, and promotional and branding strategies — to the sport and leisure industry. Students complete applied, real-world projects, including a promotional campaign developed in partnership with a professional sports franchise.
This part-time, non-tenure track position offers flexibility in teaching schedule, with the course typically offered in-person with occasional remote sessions. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities
- Teach SLM-225: Sport Marketing, delivering course content on the sport marketing environment, market segmentation, sport products, sponsorship-linked marketing, venue strategy, promotion, and branding.
- Guide students through applied, team-based projects, including a minor league franchise marketing project, an on-campus sports event promotion campaign, an advertising campaign project, and a culminating promotional campaign presented to a professional sports organization (e.g., the Maine Celtics).
- Develop and administer exams and assessments (multiple choice, short answer, and essay) that measure student mastery of sport marketing concepts.
- Maintain and update the course syllabus, schedule, and materials each semester to reflect current trends in the sport and recreation marketing industry.
- Provide timely feedback on assignments and projects; hold office hours for student consultation, academic guidance, and mentorship.
- Facilitate class discussion on ethics as it pertains to sport marketers and participants.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and required course documentation.
- Participate in departmental meetings and collaborate with fellow faculty to support student success and program quality.
- Stay current on research, teaching methods, and practices relevant to sport and recreation marketing.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a business-related field (e.g., MBA, M.S. in Marketing, Management, or Sport Management); a Doctorate (Ph.D., DBA) is preferred but not required.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of professional experience in marketing, ideally within the sport, recreation, or entertainment industry.
- Previous collegiate-level teaching experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of marketing theory and its application to the sport and recreation industry (e.g., segmentation, sponsorship, licensing, venue and event marketing).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate students in both in-person and online environments.
- Proficiency with learning management systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard) and other instructional technology.
- Ability to design assessments and applied projects that measure student learning outcomes.
- Passion for teaching, commitment to student success, and a collaborative mindset.
