POSITION SUMMARY
The Adjunct Faculty – Growth and Development Instructor teaches lifespan development content that supports the general education and nursing curriculum of the Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) program. The instructor provides students with a comprehensive understanding of physical, cognitive, and psychosocial development across the lifespan, emphasizing application to patient care. Instruction aligns with institutional policies, accreditation standards, and California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) expectations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teach Growth and Development (Lifespan Development) courses in accordance with approved curriculum, course outlines, and student learning outcomes.
- Deliver engaging, student-centered instruction through lectures, discussions, case studies, and applied learning activities.
- Integrate developmental concepts relevant to nursing practice, including:
- Prenatal, infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric development
- Physical, cognitive, and psychosocial development
- Theories of development (e.g., Erikson, Piaget, Freud)
- Aging processes and end-of-life considerations
- Relate developmental stages to patient care, communication, health promotion, and disease prevention.
- Develop and maintain course syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, and assessment tools in alignment with institutional guidelines.
- Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently; provide timely and constructive feedback.
- Maintain accurate attendance, grade records, and student progress documentation in compliance with college policies.
- Utilize instructional technology and learning management systems (LMS) for course delivery and communication.
- Foster an inclusive learning environment that supports diverse learners and promotes critical thinking.
- Provide academic support to students through office hours or scheduled assistance.
- Participate in faculty meetings, curriculum review, and professional development activities as assigned.
- Uphold academic integrity and adhere to all institutional, regulatory, and accreditation standards.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Strong knowledge of human growth and development across the lifespan.
- Ability to relate developmental theory to nursing and patient care.
- Effective classroom management and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with learning management systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle).
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.
- Commitment to student success, equity, and academic excellence.
QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience teaching Growth and Development or Lifespan Development in a nursing or healthcare education setting.
- Experience teaching in accelerated, hybrid, or online formats and in person.
- Familiarity with California BRN expectations and outcomes-based education
