Adjunct Faculty, Continuing Education - Pop Culture and Modern Nostalgia

College of DuPage believes in the power of teaching and learning. We seek adjunct faculty members to teach Continuing Education - Pop Culture and Modern Nostalgia.

Opportunities may exist to teach a flexible schedule that may include teaching assignments during days, evenings and weekends.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Adjunct Faculty instructors at College of DuPage are responsible for course planning and instruction in classroom, lab, or clinical settings, courses may be conducted in various delivery modes, such as, face-to-face, on-line, hybrid and/or blended formats. In addition, adjunct faculty are responsible for student evaluation, and timely and accurate submission of required paperwork related to instruction.

Required Qualifications

Continuing Education offers short, non-credit courses for personal growth and adult enrichment. We are currently seeking passionate instructors to design and teach engaging, fun courses in Pop Culture and Modern Nostalgia (1980s, 1990s, 2000s, and Beyond). Most classes meet once a week for 2 hours (on a weekday evening or Saturday afternoon) for 1 to 2 weeks. No academic credit is awarded.

Potential course topics could include, but are not limited to:

  • 80s, 90s, & 2000s Cinema: Deep dives into legendary filmmakers (e.g., Spielberg, Christopher Nolan, or Penny Marshall), star retrospectives (e.g., Tom Hanks, Nicolas Cage, Tom Cruise), or the cultural impact of defining films (like The Blues Brothers or The Matrix).
  • Music History & Icons: Celebrating the legendary artists, bands, and movements of recent decades—from 80s icons (like Madonna, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, or bands like Duran Duran) to the Y2K boy band and pop diva boom.
  • Nostalgic Gaming & Animation: The history of retro 80s/90s arcades, the global rise of anime franchises (e.g., Dragon Ball Z, Pokémon), or the evolution of comic books into modern blockbusters.
  • Media & Internet Culture: The transition from VHS to DVD, the birth of modern reality TV, the evolution of early social media (MySpace, early YouTube), and modern streaming or viral meme trends.

Ability to teach remotely with technology and experience in online or virtual teaching preferred. Access to personal technology, home computer with appropriate ability to teach online required.

These positions are paid by stipends for course assignments.

A pre-employment background check at the Colleges' expense is required.
