Purpose of Role
Daemen University is seeking a lab instructor for the Adult Neuromuscular Rehabilitation (PT 513/L) course for the spring 2026 semester. The laboratory component of this course is team taught, and the individual would be working collaboratively with the supervision of full-time core faculty. Responsibilities would include providing feedback to student-learners in the lab-based setting as they develop and refine their understanding of adult neuro clinical practice. Expectations include interaction with students individually, in small and large groups, sharing of your expertise in adult-based clinical practice, and to guide and assess student psychomotor learning
Adult Neuromuscular Rehabilitation, PT 513/L
This course is the second in a three part series which will apply the conceptual framework of physical therapy management to patients/clients with neuromuscular rehabilitative needs. This course will utilize the conceptual models/frameworks and reinforce foundational principles and theories presented in PT 511/L. Clinical management of adult onset neuromuscular-based movement disorders will be introduced and emphasized within the context of the elements of physical therapy practice and patient/client management. Anatomy, functional neuroanatomy, physiology and clinical medicine from previous course work will be linked to discussions of each disorder. Theoretical approaches across examination and intervention presented in PT 513/L will be applied to each diagnosis and integrated with diagnosis specific tests, measures and interventions, with an emphasis on evidence-based practice and clinical decision making. Course content will include expanded discussion and application of adaptive and therapeutic equipment; ethical behaviors, interprofessional collaboration; delegation / supervision, and documentation to those with adult onset neuromuscular disorders. Laboratory sessions will promote development of skill in the application of examination and intervention techniques and clinical decision-making using simulated cases.
Required Qualifications
Qualifications consist of current New York State PT License, contemporary experience/expertise in Adult Neuro Physical Therapy, and an interest in teaching and mentoring Entry-level DPT students.
