Salary or Pay Band: Pay Band Addictions Counsellor - Diploma $29.584 to $36.176

Job Description: As a member of the Adult services team and under the general direction of the Manager, the primary goal will be to restore, maintain and enhance the recovery of people seeking help for addiction and/or addiction related issues through the implementation of addiction recovery programs. Addiction best practices will be utilized to improve client outcomes. "Preference for this position will be given to HSAS members in accordance with the terms and conditions of the SAHO/HSAS Collective Agreement"

Education

  • Chemical Dependency diploma

Other Education and Training

  • Bachelor of Chemical Dependency is acceptable

Competencies

  • Computer skills

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Knowledge in group dynamics
  • Knowledge of community resources in the addictions field.
  • Knowledge of therapeutic tools such as Motivational Interviewing and CBT.
  • Accurately triage addiction(s), collectively develop a recovery and case plan.
  • Knowledge in best practices in addictions and harm reduction strategies
  • Ability to deliver workshops and lecture material to clients.
  • Knowledge in holistic addictions treatment model
  • Knowledge in addictions screening, assessment tools and procedures
  • Ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Knowledge and ability to assess withdrawal symptoms related to substance use.
  • Demonstrate knowledge in addiction(s) and their effects on the individual.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Knowledge in Transtheoretical model of change
